Clearing up a common confusion

This is a nation with SOCIALISED medicine:

This is a nation with SOCIALIST medicine:

SOCIALISED =/=
SOCIALIST

and, just to be absolutely clear,
SOCIALIZED =/= SOCIALIST

Please feel free to print this out and distribute it if you find yourself listening to the sort of people that have seen me screaming at the news coverage all week.

I swear, if I was an American and some of the Libertarian loonies leading 'community' concerns came to my door, I would scream: 'COMMUNIST CONCERNS?? AIEEEEE! Fetch me the shotgun, Fido! Time to shoot me some trespassing Reds!'

Admittedly, this raises the questions why an American me would have a dog trained in gun fetching, and speak like Christopher Walken taking the piss, but let's just move on.

It's mutual.

And yes, I notice that Libertarians are more than happy to use roads, the internet and other govt-funded items. Hypocrites!

brammers, i love you. i know you're aware of this already, but i just had to reiterate it.

i'd love to link this in my next post if that's okay?

Have some more of Barney's greatest hits:

"In Massachusetts after four years of same-sex marriages, it's become a very boring issue, except to the people who are in same-sex marriages (and probably life being what it is to a few of them). Frankly, if you're a straight person in Massachusetts, this has had no impact on you, unless you live next door to a couple of lesbians and you had to buy them a present."

"I will confess that I am not a regular reader of Iranian-issued fatwahs. And probably one of the ones I missed was the one where they threatened devastation against Prague. We plan to spend several billion dollars to protect the Czech Republic against Iran. That’s either a great waste of money or a very belated way to make up for Munich."

The Speaker: "The gentleman from Massachusetts will state his point of order."
Barney: "Mr. Speaker, would it be in order to call the gentleman from Pennsylvania a muddle-headed know-nothing?"
(The Speaker consults the parliamentarian.)
The Speaker: "Um, no."
Barney: "Thankyouverymuch, Mr. Speaker."

Although this is very useful in general, do you think you could put together a more comprehensive booklet? *smiles winningly*

Yes, the situation here has become so ludicris and asinine I can't bear to watch, listen, or even read anymore.

we bitch and bitch about how the cost of health care is keeping us from doing anything we enjoy, including eating and when someone wants to do something about it, we start screaming socialism, socialism. Jeez give me a fucking break.

[identity profile] spark-of-chaos.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
God forbid you even say the c-word for fear somebody would convert or something and spread the condition.

[identity profile] ladyjaneva.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahaha!
Sounds like a really unusual guy.
But wasn't there something about the two big banks (?) with the funny names like people, Fanny Mae and Freddie something, and him being involved in saying that everything was ok until the shit hit the fan?

[identity profile] ladyjaneva.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I'm still naive?
But I don't get how people can get the two mixed up.

And even if someone is in favour of socialism or *gasp* communism: we've had communist politicians since forever, and their parties have just as many nutcases as the other ones. One of our biggest party is socialist, they've run the country and didn't do worse than the christian democrats. Different political ideas, but how can one honestly think that those people are automatically evil?

I don't understand it.

My mom believes in God and is a socialist to the core, mixed with a bit of communism. And boy does she have some scary sides to her, but those are not it.

Well, I was going to comment, but all of my fellows above have done such a good job of saying what I would like to say that I'm going to fall back on what they say at the Friends' Meeting in such a situation:

"The Friend speaks my mind"

(thank you fourth_rose, niennas_gift and sarcasticpixie for saving me some typing :-)

[identity profile] feralcheryl.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
oh sweety, I feel for you. I have utterly avoided the debate for fear of my head popping. I can't possibly allow myself to think that a nation thinks healthcare for the poor is bad.
Your job, dearest Brammers, doesn't allow you the luxury of head and sand. And your social conscience is a good deal pointier than mine. Poor poppet.
Watch some fire fly, have a cuppa, purl some, plain some.

PS we're coming back to Sinney rool soon now- bring on newtown coffee

I can see it now - Brammer's Pictorial Dixtionary of Words People Stuff Up. Please please please Brmmers - you have to write this..... I'll come to Sydney and type it for you or feed you copious amounts of red wine and cook and everything.....

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So - just as I begin to plot my visit to Melbourne in late November/early December - you WON'T BE THERE *sobs*

[identity profile] jadzialove.livejournal.com 2009-08-22 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
*loves this*

Ignorance seems to be contagious.

Sheep. That's what people are. And I pinpoint the ignorance to the moment the republican party hitched their wagons to likes of Jerry Falwell... I suppose that's another argument, but it is the birthplace of blind, uninformed/misinformed outrage from the "regular" folks.

That and Faux Fox News.

[identity profile] grey-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-08-22 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, Christopher Walken is awsome. And why not SOCIALIZT? If we go American, I mean.

[identity profile] ceares.livejournal.com 2009-08-22 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*psst* All of our dogs are trained in gun fetching! I actually cringe and laugh my ass off a the same time(it's either that or cry) when I see clips from the town hall meetings.

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2009-08-22 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I despair of people. Socialist/socialised is bad enough, but where does the socialist/nazi/communist confusion come from? Well, it was called the N_S_DAP ... So THAT'S what the Wannsee Conference was all about: a final solution to the healthcare question. How can so many historians have been so wrong? *rolls eyes so hard they risk getting stuck looking into head*

[identity profile] feralcheryl.livejournal.com 2009-08-22 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ahh, no.
Sorry dude, I thought you may have picked that up from my earlier posts.
You'll just have to come to Sinney (bonus for being only 3 hours away) The coffee and clothes are not as good but I'm sure we can find an adequate restaurant and a Cosmo or two.
Oh Brammers, your attendance is expected.
arobynsung: (peace)

[personal profile] arobynsung 2009-08-23 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness, THIS!!
It's sad how many people don't know this!!
I can't believe how this health care debate has been skewed.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be there. And there are some good vintage clothing fairs to make up for the lack of bijou artisans. Shu_shu, I want to go to Melbourne, so I can come with you, but it would be good to do it before November if you have any time :-)

BTW, FC, are you ever out near Bonfood in Preston? It seems to be the only place in Australia for Perugina Nero hot chocolate powder. Next time I go to Italy, no one will receive any pressies as I will have a bag full of hot chocolate powder sachets ...

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
'tis okay - I knew you were moving - just being a drama queen.... :)

Next trip to Sinney, I'm hoping to either get an invite to Píp's renovation party or crashing it.... though you probably won't be in Sinney by then.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Love you too, dear! And you are always welcome to link to here.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I have been thinking about it, but I am so far behind in writing that I fear I will be beaten by a few people if I don't finish one or two things first.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's an offer that's almost too good to refuse. Can I finish a few stories and a new frock first?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*mwah!*
