OOOOH!

Back in the days when there were huge budgets, newspapers used to send one journo to the actual political event of the day, and another to the nearest pub, or public lavatory, where they would be very likely to hear the real goss (or pick up a good side story on cottaging).

Sydney airport, five minutes ago, a dignified man who I recognise as a senior Australian Liberal Party figure (not sitting pollie) , and will probably recall his name by the end of the day, stands near me speaking into his phone. I can hear only his side of the conversation:

'Joe Hockey?!

'Yeah, look he's fine, sure … but as leader?

'Yeah … nah …

'Look, let's just wait till six o'clock before we make any decisions.'

Six is when the polls close, and the blood starts flowing on one side or the other! Oh Aussie politics, stability is just one of your themes, is it? Off to Brissy, the Valentino exhibition, and then in front of the telly for the evening, given there is no colosseum big enough to fit the voters waiting for these blood sports ...

I'm all for the Libs putting the knife into Tony, but I haven't a lot of time for Joe, either (for different reasons), and would certainly rather see it with them staing in opposition!

*crosses fingers*

Enjoy your excursion!

Surely you can't be implying that the Liberal Party, after all their comments about Gillard backstabbing Rudd, would then stab their own party leader in the back? Really, this would be outright hypocrisy from our politicians, which, as we all know, is absolutely unthinkable...

You had me at "or pick up a good side story on cottaging."

Hi ... linked to you by [livejournal.com profile] 17catherines.

I'm live-blogging the election over the The Conscience Vote (http://consciencevote.wordpress.com/) ... may I quote this anecdote with attribution, please?

Cheers,

Marian

That's the best news I've heard all week. Close to me calling the election last time a month out from the campaign on the basis that Bill Heffernan called me personally to apologise for the 'deliberately barren' comment. Not of course that even senior Liberal members can predict the outcome at this point, but it does mean they're running scared.

Personally I'm thinking that instead of Joe, who is a nice enough guy, but a bit TOO blokey for the Libs, they'll ask Malcolm nicely to come back as interim leader while Julie Bishop figures out if she has enough numbers to pull off becoming leader.

Thats what I am hoping.

Oh, that is a nice story. *g*

Was checking out the Lib how to vote paper in my electorate while I was waiting to vote and I noticed that he is giving preferences to the Family First party... omg I wanted to shout out to everyone waiting to make sure that they read the damned card instead of just voting blindly for one party or another. Dunno how anyone in good conscience can vote for those idiots. Heard one of their nongs on the ABC during the week and all I heard was 'blah, blah, blah, rubbish the Labor guy, affordable housing, blah, blah, blah, hang shit on the Labor guy, affordable housing...'

LOL. Oh politics...

I would take a great deal of pleasure in seeing Abbott go down, not gonna lie.
