EEEP!

The power is gone!

The fuses are fine, the houses on either side are fine, the bill is paid and there are no dead possums sizzling on the wires out the front.

I have called an electrician and he promises to be here within the hour, which promises to be expensive. Luckily, we rent, unluckily, I will have to fight to get the money back, luckily, I write the BEST letters outlining rights and responsibilities and if our estate agents cannot be arsed to give proper emergency details for their preferred people on their website or letters, then they have no grounds for complaint.

But my computer was not fully charged when everything went, woe! Am torn between writing until it all goes and saving everything up for now and reading by candlelight in the interim! We are well supplied for torches, batteries and candles ;-)

Oh poo

The fault is on Energy Australia's side of things, not the house side. So a reasonably small bill and a very frustrating phone call later we are waiting for someone from the utility to appear between 11pm and 3am to (probably) fix things. And I shall be writing a letter because apparently my carefully explaining the situation did not count, it had to come from Mr Brammers (admittedly, he, too, was patronised, so it may be just someone who is a prat rather than a sexist prat.)

I have a half-charge on the laptop thanks to our friends at the Hive Bar, will save it for later so I can do some late-night writing and check out the football results at once! Alas, my phone, she is deadibones ... Actually, that's GOOD news, it never works anyway! Off to have an evening of flashbacks to commune life but without the convenient water heating apparatus of actual commune life ...

Good grief!

The cable running down from the pole has come adrift, and all of our electrons are rushing past our house. At some point between now and tomorrow afternoon, men with a ladder will come and fix it. The Energy Australia man who just came and confirmed this was a delight and in stark contrast to the phone man. And it's not so bad, we have candles and books to be read! There was even enough hot water left in the tank for both of us to have showers!

But the house is growing cold and it is tiring to read by candlelight, and so I am going to bed. Before midnight. A sizable portion of my flist has been born since the last time I did that without having some deathly illness: I think I was probably about eight.

At least we still have indoor plumbing and antibiotics, I can do without electricity for a while!
