I felt for JKR there, I think her heart and brain were in the right place, but she didn't have an editor that she could trust to be honest with her and more motivated by the quality of the story than the cash-register ching of publishing. Showing that the world survives and improves, and that they're not all crippled with PTSD two decades later is a worthy narrative goal. And hers is a world of simple, lasting relationships. But yeah, I would like to think that they'd had some personal development in nearly 20 years.
