Amusing, and sad

Was reading Ring for Jeeves the other day and burst out laughing. Colonel Aubrey Wyvern's third-rate domestic staff are named Trelawny and Bulstrode.

Also, Happy Birthday [personal profile] raitala! And happy birthday for tomorrow, [personal profile] draykonis.

In sad news, Min cat is now out of chances and is living out her last weeks with all the salmon she can fit in.  The lovely vet assistant from the uber vet dropped round her pain meds this evening. She doesn't need them tonight, but it's good to have them. Poor brave kitty.

Oh honey, I'm so sorry this has gone the worst possible way, but so glad for dear Min that you're taking such good care of her, and will give her her peace when the time is right.

My thoughts go to you all - this is the hardest part of loving someone. I wish Min a comfortable journey. *hugs tight*

i'm so sorry sweets. [*pets you both*]

Oh, BB. I'm really sorry to hear about Min. I wish there was something I could do. I'm tempted to fill the page with all sorts of phrases that are meant to be comforting but they'll just sound like shit. So I'll just say this - that really, really sucks and I really wish I could make it better somehow. Stuff her full of salmon and hug her to bits and know we're all thinking of you.

[identity profile] pushdragon.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no! Poor Min cat. Poor you. If only we could have them forever.

We will have a cocktail for her when you get down to my neck of the woods. Something with lots of cream in it. But not salmon.

*a million hugs* You poor, poor thing. It's a terrible, terrible time waiting for them to die, but at least you know you gave her a great life and that she's not going to be in pain after it happens. I'll keep you in my thoughts - I hope that she enjoys her salmon (we gave our dog a freddo).

[identity profile] lackofmendacity.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... I'm so sorry that it's come down to this. I hope Min is still bounding around and eating well, and I know you're making her last few weeks as wonderful as they can be. *hugs you tight*

[identity profile] enchanted-jae.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, sweetie, that's terrible news. I had hoped for better for you and Min. I'm glad she's feeling okay right now. Give her an extra hug for me.

[identity profile] i-autumnheart.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, poor Min. My sympathies to you and J, and may her last days be contented and comfortable.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, you. I'm so happy that the weather has finally decided to turn to sun. She has been enjoying the garden immensely!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I am concentrating on. She is convinced that, having liberated her from kitty gaol, we have decided to make our home into kitty heaven. Oh! the purring!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
It is worse in some ways, because we are looking for that line in quality of life so that the head bopping can come before she is too distressed, but we don't want to bop her while she is still enjoying herself. The good news is that she is in no pain at all, and is having a jolly good time of it.

Very sorry to hear about your dog. I think seeing creatures you love in pain is the worst part of being an animal lover. Thanks for the sympathies, keep on rocking on.

Well, 'ok' might be a bit strong, more resigned to.

I would much rather there be some wonder cure that I could throw money at and have her come out the other side and be well, even if it meant I had to not travel for years and eat and wear generic brands. But since she is doomed no matter what, it's all about keeping her happy and pain-free, hopefully also stress-free.

Thank you for the hugs; I shall pass some on as chin scratches, she's not very huggy.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. We're just focussing on life quality rather than quantity this month.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
We are fairly wreckish ... Here's to a long and comfortable life for Thad and a sudden keeling over in the middle of a warm, sunny afternoon, years after the vet has begun to say "I've never met a cat this old and in such good nick."

Min is so peaceful she might die of smug before the tumour gets her ("Salmon again! And you don't mind me clawing the velvet? YES!")

[identity profile] raitala.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Very sorry to hear that things aren't going to work out for Min. You definately tried everything you could and I'm sure she feels well-loved.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Especially when you have so much else going on at the moment. *hugs*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
She is having a grand old time, so we will simply amuse her until the time for head-bopping is here.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, and Maybelline. It is gruesome, but we console ourselves with the thoughts that she is very happy and not in pain, and also that she'd probably have died years ago were it not for us. Thanks, too, for your lovely comments on SotF, I'll try to respond to them tonight.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
It is hard for us, but you're right, in her head, this is the BEST WEEK EVER!

Thanks for the hugs.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you are a bad woman. In fact, Bertie Wooster is barely in evidence in RfJ, as Jeeves has trotted off into the country on loan. It's very funny.

At the rate she is consuming salmon, she may die of obesity before the tumour gets her.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. She is having a grand old time of it, the little bugger. We are both feeling far more torn up about the impending loss of our cat than we were when sundry family members shuffled off.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, dear. At least she is in no pain and the weather is lovely for her.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, dear. After an awful summer, Sydney has turned on beautiful weather and the garden is full of sun and warmth. She has clove pinks to squash and catgrass to nibble on. She thinks this is the Best Week Ever.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
You have hit the nail on the head when it comes to emotions in this house. Now we just wait and observe, and try to keep her as happy as possible in the interim. Thanks for the hugs and purrs, they are being well distributed this week.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-08 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just grateful she's in no pain and is not in respiratory distress at the moment. If there is a kitty heaven, her corner will be filled with rats to catch, salmon dinners, the odd spot of tuna, and endless kibble. There will be climbing towers and reams of expensive fabrics. And everyone will have nails and enjoy giving chin scratches.

*hugs back* and stay well!

Thanks, Sno. Heh, the classic hiding cat, I know it well ...
