Perspective

I was going to post a long and involved post asking why all the Worldcup palaver turned into such sturm und drang, donder and blitzen, Grumpy and Sleepy, but then the Monster kitten spent the last five minutes playing splashies with her water bowl and now I have two little cats sitting on my feet drying off in front of the heater.

And it occurs to me that rather than getting to the heart of why so many of my lovely friends were so drained by Worldcup (I was in the group drained before postings, as opposed to the group who lost the will to live during, who should not be confused with the mods who are even now forming a support network), what I really want to do is hire an aeroplane, jet round the world, pick everyone up, and bring you all here to play with the cats.

Bugger tea and Xanax, there's nothing like a kitten nomming on your toes to make the world seem a more pleasant place.

*Scares cats with laughter*

Well, yes, I suppose gay porn can be a matter of life and death.

These two have been taking a correspondence course in cuteness while I have been at work. I have to buy a new camera so that I can film Monster's water exploits and share them, OH! the hilarity!

I'm waving furiously, hoping you don't miss me as you fly by because I really, really need to play with cats!

To be honest, I have been so stupidly busy with work and stuff in RL that I missed most of the upset during HDWC ... then again, I was so drained by the time I submitted my fic, that I was sort of happy to have the RL distractions.

Yey for cats!!! I can't move my legs at the moment because my cat is asleep on my shins. Serves me right for lying on the sofa, I suppose! At least she's nice and warm, as it's a horrible, cold, wet day here. Love the English weather.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pointing you out to the pilot right now!

You and I were in the same group; I watched the emotions explode in several directions and all I could think was "How do any of you still have the energy for this?"

[Aside for kitten playing: did you know that many shelters have casual programs where you can come in and play with bored animals? The home that we rescued Monster from has a day a week where local kids are welcomed in for supervised kitty play, adults are allowed more often.]

It's a horrible cold dry day in Sydney. Ironically, I moved out here to get away from the rain for a bit; it's been pretty much constant drought since I arrived.

Many cheers for cats, even when they render us immobile!

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
the interesting thing is, it wasn't just the writers, artists and mods who were drained during WC. i think all of fandom (writers, artists and readers alike) felt the strain. we can now all breathe a sigh of relief and have a glass of wine or five together. :)

oh and kitties!! when my kitty used to nom on my toes, i'd pick her up and nom right back on her paws. she'd look at me like, wtf?? :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in! WC did actually drive me to drink, which is a rare occurrence these days, but the horror of meeting deadline had me so wound up on coffee that my beloved broke out the gin.

And, HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! Monster's little brain would explode if I did that.

She has a great cute trick where she jumps onto my shoulder for a cuddle, but will be so overwhelmed by happines once I start tickling and patting her that she forgets to support her own weight and just flops over. Now I support her, but I received some very dramatic shoulder and breast scratches before I worked out what she was doing.

Cookie, of course, looks at Mon as though she is an idiot, and at me as though she thinks less of me for putting up with the kitten.

You know the saying: If everyone had a cat in their lap, there'd be blissful world peace and happiness. :-)

For the record: I never felt drained by hd_worldcup. But then, Sparta's never far from my mind ;-).

Berlin weather is clear blue skies and mid-summer temperatures.

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
omg that's hilarious! what is with cat's and human's shoulder?? my friend's cat jumps on her shoulder every morning while she's blow drying her hair in the bathroom! it's the weirdest thing. and i didn't believe her until i actually witnessed it! my friend was like...now you know why my hair is always half dry in the morning. :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's that Teutonic toughness, spurred on by your regularly spectacular weather. That and the frequent male nudity one encounters in Berlin (at least, one used to, I hope that hasn't changed!)

I think that the cats exude pheromones so that we calm down and are more susceptible to demands for food. And tummy rubs.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I am waiting for my friend the Tasmanian farmer to visit, he's six and a half feet tall, has long blond hair, and will look to her like some kind of Lucius Malfoy-esque god. She will either adore him or refuse to come out of her little house.

It's not so bad now that she's stopped relaxing so much she farts ...

[identity profile] vaysh11.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Teutonic toughness, yeah :-). As for the "regularly spectacular weather" - Berlin winters are dismal, summer is *now* and it lasts - hopefully - until June 14th. And why Chicago is called the Windy City when it's in Berlin that one has city grit flying in one's eyes ALL THE TIME, I don't know :-). "frequent male nudity" ... hm ... back in the 70ties, you mean?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Mid-80s. And I remember Berlin as having splendid autumns! Though that could have been because I was young and in love and everything had a golden tinge ...

[identity profile] vaysh11.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I exaggerate - Berlin summers are gorgeous , and there are the occasional golden days in autumn. It is a great place to be in love :-).

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should spend my spare week in Germany rather than England later this year, I am starting to feel the pang of reminiscence ... it was indeed a perfect place to be in love. Even with the political craziness of those days.

[identity profile] vaysh11.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
If your come to Berlin, there's a couch and breakfast here any time you wish :-). (this is serious, btw, would love to meet you)

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not so bad now that she's stopped relaxing so much she farts ...

*chokes on coffee* :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
How you can fit that much gas inside such a small kitten I will never know ...

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
my old roommate's kitteh used to squeak and scream as a baby when she would go to the litter box and poop. i don't blame her for the noise. for something that was the size of a sock, it must've been pretty painful for her to get out the elephant sized poo! :D

[identity profile] nqdonne.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I have my theories as to why, but I won't bore you :P

I think this sums it all up, and combines the two themes of your post:

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to do some serious planning; there's about 10 days' worth of stuff I need to do in Italy, but then I would feel stupid jumping on a plane and coming home. So it is either catch up with friends and family in England or Sweden, or else take a week or two for a gallery tour of Germany or Holland so that I can do some research on a few of my long-term projects.

If I go with the latter option, I will certainly come through Berlin and catch up, that would be great!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Perfect.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh the poor little thing!

Cookie had a few problems with the new food when she moved in, which were entirely in the realm of smell. She would come running in from the back room where the litter trays are pause in the living room to look at us with a facial expression that said "Fly you fools!" before running up the hall.

:) oooh love kitties
I decided I would just keep watching the Discovery Channel's I Love the Whole World commercial until all the icky feelings went away.

and then repeat to myself that I can't not make other people behave like grown ups 5000 times over and over in my head ;p

Now I'm off to E's class to help - we're all making tie-dye shirts today, Woot! - now that's fun
