Further to that hacking ...

I joined [livejournal.com profile] marmalade_fish  to check out updates on the hacking of [livejournal.com profile] sarahtales , and two important points were raised.

The first is that if you have [profile] sarahtales  friended, the hackers currently have access to all of your private posts. So it may be a good idea to defriend for a little while.  ETA, she's back, but you should still consider the fishies, it looks like a fun comm, too!

The second is that there is a suspicion the hacker is not an opportunistic Russian con artist, but someone from fandom acting malevolently. Given some of fandom's history, that does not seem as unlikely as we might hope. Why some people feel it's necessary to pour crap on those who add hard work to their talent in order to become successful is a mystery to me. Wankers, the lot of them.

It's HER!

[identity profile] furiosity.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I knew that anyway. >.>

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you are wise and I have spent far too much time demanding three or four pieces of corroborating evidence in my life ;-P (But I do prefer being sceptical and slow to the alternative!)

[identity profile] furiosity.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
My tracker also just came back and the IP is definitely hers. So that's two pieces of corroborating evidence. XD

[identity profile] melusinahp.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This was my first thought too. :(

[identity profile] melusinahp.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
My first thought when I saw the hacked post was that it had a distinctly different tone than the other hacked posts. It was more specific in the details the person clearly knows about SRB and her book release. :(

I don't even know what to say. It makes me furious and sad. Not that we don't know there are crazy, malicious people in fandom, it's just such a shame when they manage to pull crap like this off.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
She had me at loquacious.
:-)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Wankers, the lot of them!

Though, as my J is fond of saying, if crap people were not crap, they'd be barristers and bishops.

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't ask for my password this time, or anything. I can't remember how I did it last time, because that was years ago. I guess I'll have to find a different way.

[identity profile] samena.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't imported any of my old posts to DW, or any other journal, yet. It would be a good way to archive, but I'd much rather have a copy of my whole journal on my pc again, as I did with LJ archive.

[identity profile] absynthedrinker.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This is really sad for poor sarah. Creepy slag who's responsible ought to be flogged!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
YES! And creepy slag is quite right should it turn out to be a fandom malcontent.

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
what cracks me up is that all this panic happened, people are going nuts of who or what it could've been, and i'm over here in my little bubble, drinking tea wondering, who's [livejournal.com profile] sarahtales? *shrugs*

*continues to be ignorant*

[identity profile] absynthedrinker.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
This has fandom malcontent written all over it. The slag shoujd be run out on a rail. Prison wouldn't displease either.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Formerly known as mistful.

And I am thoroughly intrigued by her theory that it could be a spiteful person targeting her.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's exceptionally mean that they should frame the Russians!

And I am sure that should it turn to out be a malcontent, rails will be provided.

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
mistful? hmm...could be a spiteful person. but that's a lot of work if it is. *sigh* some people really need to get off the internets and go outside.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I would have thought it far too much effort, but after reading through some of the Great Banana Attacks of Fandom lately, I am inclined to think she may be onto something.

And your solution to the problem is EXACTLY the right one!

[identity profile] empress-jae.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Great Banana Attacks??

WHAT is going on? why are people being attacked with bananas??? GO OUTSIDE AND FLY A KITE PEOPLE! :D

[identity profile] jennfic.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have her friended, but there's a lot of "fan-entitlement" crap going on in at least one Yahoo!Group (HPRecycleBin, iirc). A disturbing number of people seem to think that once something is published on line the author should have no control over it; and are taking it as a personal affront that the author asked people not to post her stuff online.

It all started, iirc, when somebody gleefully pointed out that the zip file was still available on the d/l site, and Sarah herself said (essentially)'oops, they were supposed to take that down'; at which point the entitlement whores decided that there were 90 million reasons why she couldn't (not shouldn't, but couldn't) do that, and it devolved into spiteful wank, and I stopped reading those threads.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Good grief! Do these people not have sex lives? Could they not donate that energy to helping out with stray animals? Or collecting money for Sudanese refugees?

I despair, J, completely despair!

[identity profile] jennfic.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
but see, all of those things involve moving from their comfy spots in front of the computer screen, and interacting with real people and *doing* something. Useful. For someone else. (I'm not sure that a sex life would be a good thing -- I think it's better that people like that *not* breed.)

I am being charitable, and assuming that most of the wankers are high school or university students who are either stressed from the end of school or bored now that it's over (or perhaps parents of grade schoolers who now have the little darlin's home for the summer), but the "me-me-meeeee! who cares about the rights of the creator (unless it's my stuff)" drives me to despair as well....

Oh, that's awful! People can be such bastards. >:(

It's crazy how you can miss things when you move circles on lj.
