Reading books!

I've spent the week reading actual novels, which is unusual since I met fandom. At the moment I have my copy of The Demon's Lexicon (at last!) and am 60 pages in. I am not sure if it is the fault of me or the author spending too much time with slash goggles on, but the brothers' relationship is oddly romantic. Enjoying it so far, though.

Hope to finish this tomorrow so that I can then wrap up the rest of the Sookie Stackhouse novels (tosh, but highly entertaining tosh and with some snappy bits of writing) and my new Frances Hardinge this week (Oh, how I love her ...). One thing that I have noticed is how much more physically enjoyable it is reading a book to looking at a screen; everything from light to line length is just easier on the eyes. I may need to put the printer to more use for my fandom reading.

In cheery news, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to complications_g  and suttonwriter , you two are both wonderful thinkers on so many useful topics (even if half of compy's are bandom ;-P). Thanks for sharing your cleverness with your flists, I hope you have truly wonderful days and the present fairies are/have been VERY generous.

And Happy Birthday for yesterday to salviag  and lusiology , hopw you both had a brilliant one!

I agree - it's definitely more satisfying reading from a book, than from a computer screen. I try to print as much off as possible, but it get's a bit expensive on the print cartridges!

I'm tempted to buy the Demon's Lexicon, so I'll be interested to hear what you make of it, once finished.

I work part time with SLS so I still read far more novels than fics. Which is a great thing, but it means not enough time for fic. And it can be frustrating too, especially in the spring season when the freshly published novels are a quite trashy and I know I can easily find better written fics online.

I've been meaning to do this for ages with some of my favorite fanfics and such. Printed word and a binding! What's not to like? :D

First, thank you for the birthday wishes. I actually just got the best present: my niece singing me Happy Birthday. It'll be on my answering machine for a while.

I love these novels. Charlaine Harris knows how to recreate the South wonderfully. As someone who's currently in New Jersey, it's nice to have that reminder of home.

oh I LOVE the Sookie books! Just the right thing when I need something light and amusing to read. I just finished one. I wish they were thicker, it only takes one afternoon to read them.

Can you recommend anything similar to those?

My significo's mom just finished reading the Sookie Stackhouse books for the fourth time. She reads the first in the series and then goes all the way through. (She also reads many other books, too.) But these are her comfort novels.

I read them and so did my man's roommate. It's sort of like a conspiracy is cropping up around him where we're all reading something and talking about it in cryptic shorthand. Heh.

The humor is what I really enjoy about the books. You know, is it socially correct to bring a hotdish to a shapeshifter funeral? Some of that has been lost in the t.v. show translation, sadly.
