In which Brammers spreads some fucking sunshine

There are scads of memes going around at the moment, including one in which you say things to people on your flist anonymously. I am playing my version of this one. It's cheery.

"Why are you relentlessly Pollyanna at us?" you may ask.

"Because there are enough crap things in the world without me choosing to be one of them," I reply. "Harden the fuck up and take a compliment."

Every single person on my flist is covered by at least one of the following. Some are covered by several. If you think I mean you, I do.

1. I am always so touched by the generosity you display in both your posts and your comments. Your warmth is contagious and your kindness is inspirational.

2. You see things in ways that would never have occurred to me, but once you have pointed them out, I see things differently, too.

3. You are a completely brilliant parent. Your kids must have a fabulous time of it!

4. Do please write an original novel and become terribly famous and wealthy. I feel it would be fun for you and then I would have something else good to read.

5. You know, you are fabulously good looking.

6. We have pretty much nothing in common. I don't care, I like you anyway.

7. I never have time to read your stories, I feel very badly about this. One day I will.

8. You are SO MUCH FUN. And let us not forget the smart.

11. I know that things seem grim right now, but in the future, you will look back and see how strong you were through all of this, and you will be amazed at what you can do.

That sounds a bit like bingo. Oh dear. Oh well ;-)

Oh yes ;-) I think you get the highest number, though, 6, 7, 12 and 13 are the only ones that don't apply at all and I have my toes crossed for 3 being the future truth. And now I must go back to sleep!

Speaking as a terrible cynic and general mock-maker, I would just like to say, "Bravo".

What a lovely way to offset some of what I am sure was epic wank. (I tend to miss these things as I am usually somewhere in the basement archive of fandom, but that suits me fine.)

I thoroughly enjoy your stories, and your writing in general and you are clearly A Very Nice Person.

So I will take 5 and 6 with a smile and a "Thank you".

You cheat!

You're supposed to be British, yet you're being open, unashamedly emotionally sincere and forthright, frank, personal, direct and making everyone feel better about themselves instead of faintly inferior. You didn't even finish with a lame joke, undercutting the sincerity of everything you just said. They'll take away your passport your know.

I have to confess that the first time I managed to just say "You are an amazing person and I love having you in my life" without any element of ironic tone or dismissive handwaving or alcohol was after three years in Australia. I received a non-ironic round of applause in return. Cheeky buggers.

You know that you're 2, 5, 8 and 10 at the very least. See, I'm drunk on the power of sincerity now.

My thoughts exactly! And I suddenly realised that people produce all that negative crap in their own heads ALL THE TIME, so it would be pointless for me to replicate it. But what we can sometimes forget is the huge bundle of good stuff that comes with practically each and every one of us (there being no leaders of Zimbabwe on my flist). So I thought I'd focus there.

It was fun to do and reminded me of all the things I really enjoy about fandom. BTW, you were one of the poster girls for 15, and there are quite a few more numbers that are firmly attached to you in my head!

Actually, I thought of you for several of these numbers. And, because I have been through the year-long rehab, too, you get a particular variety of 11, which has the caveat that I know you already know this. I also have high hopes that you will be a 13 again someday, and you are certainly a 1, as your grace under all sorts of fire continually shows. Have some more shiny shagging!

Not sure what I said that you treasure (??sure you chose the right number) but MAN that's just some serious happyface. :DDDDD

I think it's more that I would like to be a nicer person, since I find it very easy to take the piss, as they say. So it's a sort of compliment-based carbon offset analogue. If I am going to poke fun at things and people, then I should also point out the good, so nature balances itself.

And you are very welcome, 5 is terribly appropriate, and I have many lifelong friends who are 6!

It's the living in Australia, all this sunshine makes me chirpy, and the winters are no colder than Oslo summers, as pingrid often reminds me with not a trace of bitterness.
