It's actually one of the reasons I stopped almost all review and critical work: the scene in Australia is so very small that it ended up being really incestuous.

How do you say something harsh about someone's work knowing that you are likely to to be sitting next to them at a party on the weekend and that they may well be the person reviewing your work? (The number of authors who also review is disturbing, but it's a nice little earner ...)

In theatre and music, it's not so bad because there are more solid lines between performer and critic.
