Really, Mr Nolan is kind of a one trick pony: all his films are about a white shady man with trickster skills and a pretty young dead wife, and about his man pain.
All his protagonists are creating illusions to compensate for the fact that they lack confidence in their masculinity, and why do they lack it? Because their woman is dead. Just look at Batman, the Bale & Jackman magic show, and now Cobb. His narratives are rather predictable. :)
