Have snot ... and Pimms!

One thing I often tell people is not to break their foot. It's bad for you. You should also not break your nose. You should especially not break your nose to the point that you end up with a deviated septum, because if you get a cold, sometimes you end up with sinuses full of snot for days if not weeks on end and it is both disgusting and unpleasant.

Now that you are all either moving on to the next person on your flist or going 'EWWWW!', ROYAL WEDDING DAY IS HERE! This is grand news for three reasons. 1. We had an early mark to go home and watch. 2. Some genius brought Pimms into work and there is an unusual degree of sozzledness at this end. 3. Minor royals and their terrible fashions!

The ABC has started with its BBC coverage, and Huw the Unhappy. At least their Random People to Question are a bit more pertinent than the few minutes of Channel 9 coverage I saw. There's Kate's head master from school, bless him. 'She's nice, her family are nice, yay nice!' is the gist of his commentary.

I'm tremendously tempted to liveblog it as though it were Eurovision, but to be honest, I am here so that I can drink some hot choc out of my terrifically tacky commemorative mug and giggle at the hats. Ladies -- never wear a hat bigger than your shoulders to an indoor event. All else aside, it makes navigation and seating awkward.

I saw that. Not every wedding has snipers on the roof!

Very.... English of him.

I love it when people make such remarks like that in a very careful, poised voice that you just can not reply without making a scene :)

Yes, very nicely done. And I am enjoying the Bishop of London's words, too!

[identity profile] quatrefoil.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking with authority, I can attest that the occasional sinus full of snot is preferable to having one's deviated septum undeviated, since the latter involves a hammer and chisel and a nose full of seaweed, and does not necessarily guarantee that you won't have the occasional sinus full of snot.

[identity profile] quatrefoil.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps not, but they add a nice touch, and if I get married I'll do my best to incorporate them.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I have had enough broken noses to last me a lifetime!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
I would get a shooter's licence just to help out there!

[identity profile] quatrefoil.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I'll bear that in mind, but you're more likely to be called upon for my Single Blessedness Day.

BTW, I hope you and ShuShu are wearing your coronets for the occasion.

Darling I had the tiara polished specially!

I was rather liking the Vivienne Westwood outfit.

I have amaretto and applejuice. It's the only thing getting me through some of the 'talk to the plebes' moments.

Poor lamb. "No more", he said, "It's embarrassing."

Looks like the Queen needs a cuppa and a sit down.

Oh god, could those commentators be more patronising? I am not sure whether the correct response to some of the people in costume is 'Oh, good for you', or 'Shine on, you cheerful nutter, I'm just going this way ...' but I feel quite certain that 'What possessed you to dress like that?' is not the best choice!

I thought the outfit itself was good, but it was wearing her rather than her wearing it. She's young, there's plenty of time to hide behind your clothes in your fifties!

Don't we all! I want to be with you and your scones. I have jam!

And Wills is a retiring lad, bless him.

I think some of those flowergirls were having the time of their life ... the theory that Harry has them juiced up on sweets seems to hold water!

PIMMMMS!

I brought a bottle back a few years ago, because I loved it so much.

How drunk are you, darling?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's great stuff, though more punishing than I think.

Drunk enough to think, 'Hmmm, Birthers or a bald farmer who talks with trees? Bugger a Republic, it's too dangerous! It makes people like Trump think they are relevant!' But sober enough to spell!

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Brammers you are completely adorable ♥

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh seriously, hon, it's not that long ago that American politics was a hotbed of philosophical and intellectual debate that set up challenging questions that stretched our boundaries and changed the world.

Now we have Trump and his pet headferret crowing about wasting the President's time. What the hell happened? How did it come to this?

Give me a dour German with an impeccable work ethic if an occasionally inappropriate husband over that any day!

But first, give me a sandwich, I'm starting to feel a little giddy.

[identity profile] rainien.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor Princess Beatrice. I'd quite forgotten all about both Bea and her sister. Now all I'll remember of Beatrice is that monstrosity perched atop her head. "Here I am, Princess Beatrice, all dressed up like a monochrome gift. Any takers?"

*ahem* Goodness! It's been a while since I was that catty. I should, perhaps, feel bad for saying that. *considers* Nope. The hat is truly awful.

She is a lovely looking young woman under all the eye make-up and dreadful headwear. Just because Philip Treacy made it, there's no reason to wear it!

I like to think that she and her sister had a bet on.

They are rather dreadful. If you're going to seek out the people who are a bit nuts, you're not allowed to patronise them after.

I don't think I caught the woman you mean. The Spanish lad who was trying to get Kate to give up William and run away with him instead was hilarious.

I want it to be true that Harry was slipping them sweets, so I'm going to believe it no matter what.

They were pretty good scones, if I do say so myself. :o)

The other one was wearing Vivienne Westwood. I approve of her.

[identity profile] rainien.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
The Vivienne Westwood wasn't quite to my taste, but I wasn't the one wearing it. It was age-appropriate for Princess E and she wore it well.

[identity profile] rainien.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
One of my co-workers didn't like what either sister wore. She suggested that the sisters were protesting the absence of Mum!Sarah.

The hats! *swoons*
