Have snot ... and Pimms!

One thing I often tell people is not to break their foot. It's bad for you. You should also not break your nose. You should especially not break your nose to the point that you end up with a deviated septum, because if you get a cold, sometimes you end up with sinuses full of snot for days if not weeks on end and it is both disgusting and unpleasant.

Now that you are all either moving on to the next person on your flist or going 'EWWWW!', ROYAL WEDDING DAY IS HERE! This is grand news for three reasons. 1. We had an early mark to go home and watch. 2. Some genius brought Pimms into work and there is an unusual degree of sozzledness at this end. 3. Minor royals and their terrible fashions!

The ABC has started with its BBC coverage, and Huw the Unhappy. At least their Random People to Question are a bit more pertinent than the few minutes of Channel 9 coverage I saw. There's Kate's head master from school, bless him. 'She's nice, her family are nice, yay nice!' is the gist of his commentary.

I'm tremendously tempted to liveblog it as though it were Eurovision, but to be honest, I am here so that I can drink some hot choc out of my terrifically tacky commemorative mug and giggle at the hats. Ladies -- never wear a hat bigger than your shoulders to an indoor event. All else aside, it makes navigation and seating awkward.

Or use feathers! Heaps and heaps of feathers in a... holiday spirit.

(Was shown about 1.5 hours ago.)

On a side note, I hope the sinuses go away soon :( I get constant sinus infections and the feeling of being blocked up really sucks.

But! Good to know that hot chocolate and Pimms makes things a little better :)

Thanks, dear! I am usually fine, but my ears and head are manky because my nose is failing in its job as a site of snot egress. Have hot choc, Pimms and Duchy shortbreads, all eminently bearable!

There are some amazing feathery hats! Ooh, the Home Secretary just wandered past the camera looking very nice in a series of mushroomy tones, which very few people would look good in, but she really did!

Duchy shortbreads as well? That definitely sets off a good night!

I just saw your Prime Minister, who seems to be looking lovely! Although she does have a fascinating .... hat? I'm sorry, but who is your Home Secretary?

TVNZ has kept pretty tight to the crowd, except a set of three ladies, who I presume are dealing with the speculation of dresswear for the bridal party. We did see the Headmaster (surprising memory on someone who was relatively quiet in school, yes?) and some crowd people, but not many other people.

... I expected not to cross-over to this until just before 10pm, but the fashion in this has been fascinating enough for me to keep on watching!

I am Dual Citizening and claiming ownership of everyone, it's just easier that way ;-) So it was Theresa May, looking very nice! I think I glimpsed the Governor General of Australia looking gorgeous in red. Julia Gillard's hat is not the most fortunate choice, but we love her for her brains, not for her fashion choices (just as well!).

And yes, spotting mad fashion and recessive chins makes it all quite a bit of fun :-)

:) Claim ownership of everyone! Its the easiest way, yes. I was impressed with John Key, he is very good with cleaning up, but he (and his wife) has done very well this ttime.

Yes, the hat was not the best.. choice, but she looked lovely, and while I don't see her much, she certainly seems very intelligent. Fantastic speaker as well.

:) It lightens up the evening, yes. Also, so many lovely uniforms that I've never seen-- the last time there was apparently a Royal Wedding, I was 4 months and more interested in distracting my parents...
