I think Americans are smarter than that …

Saw The Avengers tonight with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] pushdragon, and we enjoyed it very much. The script was a thing of joy :-)

But I have a quibble, that isn't worth a spoiler cut because every American super/monster movie made since 1930 has had a fight scene in New York, so of course this one does, too.

And I do not believe that in this day and age, when New Yorkers see things exploding in the sky, their response would be to stand there and gape. Rick Rescorla had a bigger impact than that, oh film-makers!

This, and one other thing, and a few pacing issues aside – it's terrific!

Heck, I live in Boston and my first reaction to "things exploding in the sky" would be "where the hell is the subway entrance?" Staying in a tall building? No WAY.

I know! Film makers really do think that normal people are numpties when it's convenient to the plot. And this is why real people have better survival rates :-)
