One of my favourite anecdotes concerns the 2nd Duke of Wellington, the son of he mentioned above.

He was visiting America on a while the American Civil War was taking place. While having a conversation with a Southern General the Southern General turns to the 2nd Duke of Wellington and says "So, I hear your father was a military man too?".

I thought it was pretty funny.
