State of the Nation

Tasmania: Fires mostly under control, no longer super stinky hot.

Western Australia and Northern Territory: Still stinky hot for the most part.

Victoria: On fire, less stinky.

South Australia: Mostly fine.

Queensland: Under water.

New South Wales: Really quite wet, but for the most part it's falling from the sky rather than sheeting across the ground, so nowhere near as dire as Queensland.

And this video will probably be shown in snippets on TV news near you around the world, but watch this mostly original version for the beauty of the dialogue as a car looms out from a sea of foam blown onto a stretch of roadway and narrowly avoids two police. I strongly suspect the bleeped out bit may have come from the larger copper.

ETA: Charlotte mentioned the Sydney weather radar in her comment. This is the 128km radar shot from this evening. My house is about a half-inch down from the middle and a little to the left.

We spent the day basically swimming around Taronga Zoo. Totally drenched, totally buggered. Hopefully I wont pay for it for too long. At least it wasn't 40c.
Was struggling to handle an umbrella, a walking stick and a digital SLR. Had a poncho on and the umbrella and still had to wring out all my clothes before putting them in the washing machine.
>_< Some of the paths were rivers. My new shoes did very well at staying dry until it came in over the ankles.

Would have preferred it if all the food places hadn't decided that they were going to close massively early because it was raining! I did research to make sure we could eat there and everything.
