Eight Years!

Eight years ago today, I thought, 'Well, you know, I could always just dip a toe into Fandom …' and opened an LJ account.

Countless hours of enjoyment later, I'm still here. Even if it has become just a little toe of late thanks to real life being a giant pain in the bum.

I have met amazing people, I have read beautiful words and enjoyed astonishing art. I've learned an enormous amount from all of you, most importantly that there are very good strangers on the internet, and a great many of them are in this corner of it.

I've still not finished the first fic I ever posted. It's very possible I never wil. Though I don't think I've finished with fanfic, even though I may never surpass what I think could be my greatest line: 'I had Muggles and masturbation and I traded them for you.'

Thank you to everyone who has friended me and brought kindness and joy with them, to every casual reader, to every commenter – I know, I AM awful at replying!, and to everyone who has let me befriend them. My life is better for each one of you. It was a good decision eight years ago. I've given myself a pat on the head for making it.

The challenge is in keeping up with everyone and all the posts. It's impossible given all the demands ons one's time even if effectively under employed. Too many distractions, too many sources of information, too many good people to read and follow, too many news items, too many real life distractions (why must dirt always be cleaned up in apartments? and why must dishes always be cleaned before reuse? Well, I sort of understand that last one now. But still ...)
