Friending Policy

Hi Friends, LJ Users, Nigerian Scammers, Russian Bots and sundry others!
Thanks for taking a moment to read my sticky post on friending.

On the whole, there's no need to friend me if you just want to read my fics, since they are posted unlocked. In fact, most of my locked posts are me ranting about the state of the world (usually from a politics or media slant) or some such.

Generally, I am a ready friender. If you friend me and you have entries in your livejournal or have commented on some of my posts, you can usually expect to be friended back, unless:
* There are no entries in your LJ.
* I do not recall us ever having 'spoken' online (given how selective my memory is, you should probably assume this.)
* Your LJ is written wholly in a language I do not speak (pretty much anything that is not English, or French or Italian (both of which I speak poorly), or German, Spanish, Latin, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Welsh or Irish (all of which I have a smattering of and enough reference books to get the gist.) (Though if your journal is in actual Latin as opposed to Lorem Ipsum, I will probably immediately friend you on principle.)
* Your journal consists of several entries a day concerning My Little Pony, school and whether your hair looks better in plaits, pigtails, or with a fringe pouf. You are probably adorable, but should not be subjected to my occasional flocked rants.

SO, if you've friended me (thanks!) and I've not friended you back, just drop a brief line saying 'Excuse me, oh vague and neglectful one, could you friend me back please?'

I can't guarantee that I will ever have time to be a good lj friend, but I will try and provide you with amusing content and I always try to read my whole flist. Well, the stuff before the cut at any rate.

More friending

Hi Brammers,
So I've been a devoted lurker for some time and have finally gotten around to getting my very own LJ, and would be delighted if you would friend me :D I adore all your fics (ALL of them) as well as all the wonderful commentary on our marvelous Australian political system. Cheers! zuma

Hi Zumapi! Welcome out of your lurkerdom! And thanks for the kind comments, I have been depressed all day because after three days of working on my The History Of Australian Politics as Told Through Harry Potter post, Annabel Crabbe did Utegate The Potter Version in the Herald today.

But I will keep going, as my post contains the best Bob and Blanche joke I have ever made ;-)

If you could see me now...

It wouldn't be very flattering for me (as I am all mouth agape, bed-headed, and wide-eyed), but very much so you as I now think you are kind of ridiculously cool.

You listed 12 different languages that you could follow journals in, and I have trouble with just one. I am horribly impressed.

That said I found a piece of yours over in the HP Showcase and liked it very much, and am now looking forward to reading the rest of your work. (This may not be the appropriate place to comment on this, but... It seemed easiest to enthuse all in one place. And it seemed rude to otherwise lurk.) Cheers!

InkyKate

Oh don't get the wrong idea! I am reasonable at reading French, vaguely passable at reading Italian, and can puzzle out a bit of German, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian because I have a very very vague familiarity with the structure of the languages and they have similarities to ones I am stronger in, but mostly because I have a large reference library. Latin, Irish and Welsh are all languages I have actually studied and have many reference and textbooks devoted to. Can't remember a bloody thing that's not horticultural Latin or common mottoes of the Middle Ages. But I can look it up in a jiffy!

So thrilled you liked my story, welcome to the LJ (it's a bit deranged), and feel free to lurk or to join in as it takes your fancy. Thanks so much for the note!

[identity profile] teganscrush.livejournal.com 2009-09-01 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* I can guarantee you that I will never wax poetic on My Pretty Pony and I haven't had plaits since...uhm, ever.

I was going to ask to friend you because I have read your comments on some mutual friend's ljs - [livejournal.com profile] thilia primarily and I love meeting new people. My rants are usually f-locked and hidden, so you need not be subjected to them if you don't want. :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-09-03 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi teganscrush! Sorry for the delay, life has been bonkers of late. That sounds lovely! Any friend of thilia's is welcome as a friend of mine! And I do love a good rant.

*waves* I've been admiring your work from afar for many a month now and I just plucked up the courage to friend you tonight. I blame it on the lack of coherency due to cold medicine and congestion. [I promise not to get you sick over the internet ;)].

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi there! Just wanted to tell you that I've been stalking you for some time now I absolutely loved And Save Me From Bloody Men, Sins of the Fathers (just finished that a fews days ago but haven't had the chance to leave a comment yet), and Little Red Courgette. So I've friended you to keep up with your posts, and I hope you don't mind. *hugs*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
As a sign of my derangement, I had actually thought we were mutual friends for some time -- I think most of our flists are identical and just hadn't noticed I only saw you at their places!

Don't mind at all and have happily made it mutual! And thank you, your delightful form of stalking is quite lovely! BTW, do not start the sequel to Sins as I have not finished it. I WILL finish it, quite soon as it turns out, but not in the next week or two. Welcome, and I apologise in advance for the ranting.

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
We do have many mutual friends! I've been wanting to friend you for ages because you leave some of the most funniest/thoughtful comments in their journals - so you seem like a very cool person to get to know. :)

It's too late! I've already read Sins, and I'm now anxiously waiting for the continuation. ;)

Hello *waves*
I hope you don't mind me friending you!
I've seen you around on other friends' LJs, and I loved your [livejournal.com profile] hd_career_fair fic.

[identity profile] penguin474.livejournal.com 2009-11-05 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Friended you at my RL journal as well ([livejournal.com profile] pingviini).

[identity profile] pionie.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! I have just finished re-reading Red Courgette, and I'm sure that won't be the last time. Can't wait to read more of your stories :)

Hola! I've been nosing around and like the cut of your jib. Also I already know I look excellent in a fringe pouf. Mind if I friend?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-01-13 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, please! Let's make it mutual, as I know you have excellent taste!

[identity profile] lil-shepherd.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hi!

I've just friended you because I am tired of having to have [livejournal.com profile] inamac reading your posts out loud! Besides, I want to comment.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I rarely screen and allow anonymous comments, so it's fine either way, but when I did my 'check is not spambot' look of your journal a minute ago, I discovered your photos of toy car racing, so think we should definitely mutually friend as: wow!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Damn! Forgot to respond to this. Thank you so much!

[identity profile] lil-shepherd.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
I have just had a series of weird glitches by which you did not appear on my flist on my profile, but when I went into edit you were there as a mutual friend. I had to add you to one of my custom lists before you appeared! I hope this is not a sign of things to come...

[identity profile] why-am-i.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
...hello. Do you mind if I friend you? You know both [livejournal.com profile] blindmouse and [livejournal.com profile] frankkincense, you live in the same city as me, you like Estonia (my grandmother is Estonian, and I shall be taking my first trip there later this year, if all things go according to plan), you write fic and you are knowledgeable about things I only dimly remember from my childhood, like giant earthworms. The universe seems to be prompting me to friend you. :)

Incidentally, I am guilty of several entries a day, and some of them do contain references to the state of my hair, but you are welcome to skip the inane, bored-at-work posts to your heart's content.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
But I love hair as well! Sounds great!

[identity profile] why-am-i.livejournal.com 2010-04-16 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hoorah!

(I mentioned it just in case you did not want any discussions on whether my hair looks better in (theoretical) plaits/pigtails, or with a fringe pouf in a bob.)

[identity profile] teresacoutinho.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely do not post entries regarding the state of my hair, or school or even Little Ponies (despite the fact that I'm addicted to slash fanfiction of the HP kind). I do have usually one entry a day, tho I can go without any entries if I'm sick. I write in English (as evidenced by current comment) but unfortunately I've never "spoken" to you online.

I have read some of your HP fics and found it rather good, and you've mentioned media and political rantings in your blog. I'd be interested to read about that, since most others just have fics on their blogs.

Hope to get "friended" back. =)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I have to confess, I would probably read hair posts ;-)

And this counts as speaking! But I must dash, as I am mid-political rant. However, friended you back as you sound both lovely and interesting!

[identity profile] sorrel-forbes.livejournal.com 2010-10-24 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hullo Brammers,

I was going to wait until I had an LJ face before introducing myself around, but our mutual dictionary appreciation encouraged me to delurk a little earlier. I properly exist now - I’m the shy little girl (yes, with pigtails) in the corner of the sandpit rearranging her toys in different configurations and admiring other people’s sandcastles. I’ve friended you because you build lovely sandcastles, and seem like a friendly type. Also, we short people should stick together, right?

S.
