Clearing up a common confusion

This is a nation with SOCIALISED medicine:

This is a nation with SOCIALIST medicine:

SOCIALISED =/=
SOCIALIST

and, just to be absolutely clear,
SOCIALIZED =/= SOCIALIST

Please feel free to print this out and distribute it if you find yourself listening to the sort of people that have seen me screaming at the news coverage all week.

I swear, if I was an American and some of the Libertarian loonies leading 'community' concerns came to my door, I would scream: 'COMMUNIST CONCERNS?? AIEEEEE! Fetch me the shotgun, Fido! Time to shoot me some trespassing Reds!'

Admittedly, this raises the questions why an American me would have a dog trained in gun fetching, and speak like Christopher Walken taking the piss, but let's just move on.

I guess I'm still naive?
But I don't get how people can get the two mixed up.

And even if someone is in favour of socialism or *gasp* communism: we've had communist politicians since forever, and their parties have just as many nutcases as the other ones. One of our biggest party is socialist, they've run the country and didn't do worse than the christian democrats. Different political ideas, but how can one honestly think that those people are automatically evil?

I don't understand it.

My mom believes in God and is a socialist to the core, mixed with a bit of communism. And boy does she have some scary sides to her, but those are not it.

I can't work out if the Americans who do it are sincerely that naive or just being disingenuous twats. But yes, you would think they would look at the rest of the world and see how it worked, but no, apparently not.

Looking at the rest of the world? *gasp*

I lived in VA. I fell in love with the state and met so many wonderful people and consider my host family to be real family.

And I was asked by people I met how our Imperator is doing (you know, the one from the first world war), if Hitler is still alive, do we have cars, and how come I know so much about Germany. And how come I speak another language.
And all those questions were not jokes. And they were asked by adults.
