About a year ago, Victoria was engulfed by fires and my flist was filled with spontaneous acts of human decency. Now Haiti has suffered a devastating earthquake, and I'd like to do what little bit I can.

Haiti has been a nation teetering on the edge of disaster for decades. Its economy is shot to hell, buildings and infrastructure are crap, and international aid agencies there are already stretched in the wake of multiple cyclones in the last few years. They need help.

The Red Cross and Oxfam both have Haiti funds (use the drop-down menu on the ICRC page), and Medicins sans Frontieres and several other aid agencies work there, too.

SO. In a bid to raise a bit of dosh for Haitians, I offer up the following:

* A story of reasonable length to your prompts, in a genre of your choice, taking as read that I don't do porn, sexual violence, or serious mpreg. Potter fic is probably your best bet, but I feel sure I could do Sherlock Homes or Austen fic if it came to that. You can ask!

* A concrit of a story or stories of yours up to 30K. Not a beta, but things like 'This bit should be over there. Ideally, you need a bit more explanation as to why this is happening. You do really well at creating this character's voice, well done! This bit is anachronistic. OK, variation in tone, let's talk about it ...' Just be warned that if you pick this one, I will be gentle and encouraging, but that's my version of gentle and encouraging, which may not be yours.

* A scene from one of my existing fics, written in discussion with you. Could be a sequel, 'deleted scene', the next bit of one of my shameful WiPs ...

How do you get 'em? Bid in comments! Top bid gets first choice, second second, third what's left. Money goes to major aid agency working on the Haiti emergency (can be split between multiple agencies). My one stipulation is that it's not an organisation that gives aid dependent on religion.

Don't have loads of cash? Don't worry! Bid anyway and I will choose a random person using a hat and bits of paper and they'll get their choice on payment of their donation no matter what it is!

Bids close at midnight Sydney time (GMT +11) on Saturday January 23rd, delivery should be by Easter, though if you go for fic, I am also happy to send you parts as I write by email, so that you can see what I laughingly refer to as my 'process', if you're interested.

Other people have mentioned they have cunning plans afoot, I will pimp when when more is known!

So, I don't have the money to bid. I planned to donate a bit on Friday anyway, but I'll let others who can afford to bid, bid for you =P

I just want to say when you do stuff like this, when ANYONE does stuff like this, it makes me SO FREAKING HAPPY, and so proud of the people I know online. Our community online is like no other that I've ever known. ♥

Having been to Haiti (albeit not very long) my heart goes out to the people there. I want to bid, only because I am selfish and would love some hard core honest concrit on one of my fics, but even if I don't win I plan on donating anyway.

Excellent. I love how fandom bans together to help people. It's one of my favorite things about the community. I don't have any money myself until tomorrow, but I'm going to sign up to donate fic.

That concrit thing is the most wonderful idea of a gift I've ever seen. More authors should do this. Sadly I don't have any story worth betaing (being betaed? both ?), but it's a brilliant idea.

*raises hand* I've got a question. I want the concrit most of all. Can I bid and, if I win, ask for that first?

Gordon Brown/David Cameron slash or pre-slash.

£25. £30 if you add some on-the-side Boris/David Eton action.

Firstly dear, I hope you'll recover soon *hugs*

(Random but I wish I can comment more in your entries, if only to show you that I'm reading and am always entertained by your rants on Australian politics but alas, I feel too shy to do so. I'm not very well-read on the political nor current affairs front because frankly, it depresses me. My own country's politicians depresses the hell out of me. By the way, if you are ever magically transported to the state of Selangor in Malaysia, please refrain from uttering these words; Allah, Nabi (prophet), wahyu (revelation), Imam (learned, religious man) and 21 other words that I refuse to remember. Otherwise you'd be in risk of being fined M$3,000 or 2 years in jail. Stupidity; Malaysian politicians/leaders own a large share of it :\)

Curious question; these fanfic auctions, does it mean when you bid, you are giving that amount, regardless if you're the winning bid or not? I always get confused about that :\

I am living on a very restricted budget these days as I no longer have my own income stream, but I'll throw my hat in the ring for the random auction anyway. I want the concrit. :)

Er, since my 68 yr old mom can't quite work the computer I'm doing this for her. She thinks you rock, by the way. (I've read her some of yr fics while she does her weirdly masochistic needlepoint thing and she does her version of squeeing.)

She's offering 100$ for a fic. That's as high as she can go right now.
