Is it nap time yet?

I had this theory I would take May off work. At this rate, I am grasping mid-June to mid-July as my first available sanity break. CURSES![Poll #1562495]In other news, Vaysh and Maggie have a fabbo list coming together on the most-recced fic written since the end of canon. Check it out here! I have bookmarked it as a good reading list for mid-June, but if you have a better memory than I, get in and add your own suggestions!

And here is one of the most charming art pieces I've seen in ages: Hugo and Arthur out in the garden by [livejournal.com profile] leochi .

It was a toss-up between 'Little Red Courgette' and 'Of Great Price' but in the end 'Of Great Price' won out. *g*

(It's the sophisticated choice ;-)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You're always with the cool kids ;-)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be the best choice, too. Cal was saying that it is a handy non-fanon piece, but also covers some of why we do fan fiction, both good points!

"Little Red Courgette"! I so love your description of the Minister : all the pointless laws, the in-offics politics, ...

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a good laugh! I think I will give that to him if he likes the first one, as it is more at the fanon end. Baby steps!

my husband has read a couple of mine and he definitely enjoys the plot and action more than the romance aspects (he would even if it were het). I wouldn't do LRC because it, to me anyway, is far too fanon - It's the kind of fic you love (which I did) if you've read a lot of fanon H/D. So I'd say Price becaue the R/S is really canon based and you've got the war plot/issues going on in it. I think it's more of a man's fic. /2cents

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just chatting with Fray about how I always come up as a perfectly average man in IQ tests and other things that are meant to reveal 'brain gender'. Now you mention that the fic that I feel most 'me' is a man's fic ;-) I'm off to buy some beer and will henceforth belch in public!

But I do agree with you!

hee, I love being agreed with.

Like a typical guy, I asked him what he thought of Owl named Romeo and he said that he really liked the 'fight scene' and when Lucius gets all butch and says 'if Potter weren't here, you'd be dead' LOL

:D Thank you so much for the lovely rec!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank YOU for the gorgeous art!

[identity profile] leochi.livejournal.com 2010-05-13 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
*big grin* ;D

[identity profile] kareina.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Of Great Price because it is so darn plausible in the context of the published books.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
After thinking about it and reading responses, that's the one I decided on, too, with Snatched close behind. Thanks for helping!

[identity profile] vaysh11.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I am thrilled to hear that "some writing" is happening. :) And thank you, Brammers, for promoting Maggie and my New H/D Favourites-thingie. ♥

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Today was woeful: two sentences! But I am loving the list! I can see the long list forming the basis of my reading for the rest of the year ;-)

[identity profile] jadzialove.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I chose "Snatched" because it's got bad guys and behind-the-scenes media and cops and Finnish pastry and seemed like something Mr. B might like as an introduction into things fannish and slashy.

I had a tough time choosing though. "Beneath Boundless Skies" makes me cry, but I love it, and "Little Red Courgette" is madness of the best kind. I might actually have to read that one again very soon.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Snatched has ended up being my second pic in a very close run race. I think I am going with Of Great Price just because all the characters in it are adults in canon, so the fact there is a bit of sex and so on is not in any way confrontational if you're coming at it from the canon perspective. If he likes that, I'll back it up with Snatched, which is the best thing I've done in terms of pace and tightness, and then we can see about letting him into any of the loopier options ;-)

Thanks, love! And how is work? I've not wanted to interrupt you! The next 10K of Fathers is nearly there when you have time, alas, it is not the end by a long shot. Sigh.

[identity profile] siria.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I was torn between "Little Red Courgette" and "For the Public Good", but in the end I chose the one that was already on the list. I wish I could read your fics for the first time, too! But alas, too late. :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Your icon has had me giggling like a crazy person -- and thank you for the vote of confidence. I am a wee bit afeared: if he is patronising or hates them I may have to kill him, and then who will clean the cat litter tray?

[identity profile] thenotoriousso4.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I am sad to see that I am the only one who picked "other", but I have to say that nothing compares to "For The Public Good". That is one that I would read over and over again.

But maybe I'm a little biased because that is the first fic of yours that I ever read.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheers dears! I do love that fic, and I think it is my most accomplished piece of fest writing (I actually took time to edit it properly, for one), but didn't put it on the list because it was possibly just a bit too far down the 'fan' side of fan fic. But thank you!

[identity profile] thenotoriousso4.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you kidding? I linked "For The Public Good" to my best friend who has not read the books or watched the movies. And while she had a couple of character/plot questions, she absolutely adored all the political humor!

But yes, it did feel very polished and well thought out. And I think that's what made it all that much more brilliant to me, on top of the political humor.

But if it is off the table, my next vote would have to be for "Beneath Boundless Skies". It does have Australians, so maybe he would connect with it more. :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
This made me laugh, because the thing I read before it was this: http://fanlore.org/wiki/Wizarding_Politics -- a friend linked me to my 15 seconds of fame ;-) Ah Boris ... you're a comedy staple ...

[identity profile] thenotoriousso4.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You're famous (and well-deservedly so)!

He was the icing on top of the already large pile of hilarity. :)

[identity profile] leni-jess.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Having voted for LRC, which is killingly funny, I read the comments then looked at my hard drive. How would And Save Me From Bloody Men go down? That has zing in all sorts of ways.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It's my backup if he looks horrified at the thought of 30,000 words! (which is apparently my natural story length. Shame that's useless for the real world ...)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I replied to this, and LJ ate it! Try again! That's my back up one in case he looks at 30,000 words in horror. Bloody Men only has 10,000 ;-)

[identity profile] leni-jess.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It sent me both messages, in the end. LJ is weird.

I was torn between LRC and Snatched. LRC won out, based purely on the whim of the moment!

Who doesn't prefer unicorns to terrorists?

[identity profile] norton-gale.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Argh, it's a tie between Beneath Boundless Skies and Of Great Price! And I can only choose ooooooooooooooooone!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I am CRUEL! But decisive ;-)

I need to re-read all the stories tonight/tomorrow so I can vote properly! (yay, a fun project!)

I'm thinking 'Beneath Boundless Skies' right now, because that's the one I remember best.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Life's too short! Do something more fun instead! But thank you! (And I should clearly go to bed, the exclamation points are well out of control ...)
