Of course I do, and there was no intention of being derogatory, it's one of my very favourite countries in the world. But in the 1990s, potato WAS the vegetarian option through most of Estonia, and the language is one of the most complex in all of Europe to anyone expect Finns and Hungarians (and I am told even to them, it's not easy).

ETA: I should be more precise: the vegetarian option available to travellers looking for a quick cheap meal. There's probably a thriving local vegetarian community available for the more organised.

For the post-war, it is a story told through the eyes of Harry Potter or Draco Malfoy, so it's post their war. Similarly, they are the ones who cannot understand the language and who find themselves at a loss. The context here is very definitely theirs.
