Brain of sago = time for cat post

Back in December I promised [livejournal.com profile] auntpurl  I would blog photos of the cats. Er ... here we are!

For newer friends, the cats are two rescues, Cookie, who was purchased so the house would feel less empty after the Magnificent Min Cat died, and Monster, who was bought to keep Cookie company. Cook was a very skinny wee thing when we got her, having been sitting in the pound growing more and more depressed for five months. She is easily the sweetest cat I have ever known, and ever so genteel.

Here is a photo of her when we first brought her home:

She was fully grown and weighed only just over 2kg. It took her a day to settle in, which she spent hiding the unused chimney and giving me a heart attack (black cats can't be seen on black backgrounds -- who knew?) For the first week she grew in weight and confidence at a huge rate, but whenever we went out, she would be waiting at the door bursting out of her skin with enthusiasm when we came home: 'Where have you been? I've been so bored!' So the next weekend we went to the Cat Protection Society and came back with a kitten to be her friend. We had a complex strategy for introducing them, then Cookie started to groom the kitten through the bars of her cage the moment we put it down. They have loved each other ever since.

Cookie continued to thrive, this is a more recent shot of her:

(She's guarding Mr Brammers from an overdose of Internet Spaceships) Of course, she's more often found looking like this:

In hopes of receiving a good tummy rub. She weighs 5kg now! The kitten was named Monster, and grew into her name, she's the most terrible big lump (over 6kg) but so amiable! She, too spends a lot of time guarding the universe ...

And attempting to join me in my travels ...

Both of them have a passion for tunnels, which means that the living room can sometimes resemble a model of the London Underground. Occasionally there are tunnel wars, which are waged from both within and above the tunnels and can lead to the human members of the house being unable to move due to laughter. By the way, imagine having these whiskers and that facial expression being the first thing you seen of a morning. And it is impossible to eat chicken without her knowing!

The tower is the other contested ground, and there are often races and minor battles for the top, but sometimes they share nicely. It does look as though Cookie is the bigger cat in this shot, but it's all fluff, she's a wee thing underneath!

Monnie is wholly obsessed with water, and wants the tap run in the bath so she can have a drink, indeed, she will sit on the edge of the bath and drink from the bathwater as you bathe in it. Cookie believes this behaviour is uncatlike and miaows plaintively at Monster, presumably encouraging her to be less of a lunatic.

Mon also bolts her kibble on occasion, and it comes back up. She did this the other morning, while I was trying to get ready for work. Cookie went over to look at the pile of semi-digested kibble, looked at the small pile of paper I had nearby ready for the recycling, shuffled an envelope off the pile to cover the vomit and gave me a look of 'Don't worry, I fixed it!'

They are thoroughly lovely wee beasties, even if they often decide their needs for pats and other people's chicken are superior to any other needs of creatures within the household!

Cats are totally the best! :D Monster is very similar to my Milly.

They are! Give Milly a cuddle from us -- tortiseshells rule!

AWWWWWWWW!

*adores*

They send purrs and leg rubs to you!

Kitties!

Mine don't understand right now why I keep making weird hissing noises at them - my failure to talk properly is not amusing them. It is amusing C, though. I got the teeniest bit of noise back briefly this evening - apparently I sounded like the Penguin in Toy Story 2 when he swallowed his squeaker. Who knew?!

*hugs*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh MERE! Your poor lungs and throat! I would think the kitties would be thrilled that you sound more like them, the ungrateful little muppets! *Hugs you back, tightly!*

Aw, they're precious! How cute. :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
They are very sweet, even when they are being naughty :-)

[identity profile] alex-s9.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, to add further to odd similarities, I've got an elen-years-old cat who looks just like Cookie. Down to the white socks.

My other cat looks completely different, though.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
HEE! Excellent! I have to say that I had always loved cats that looked like that, so I was very please to find one that needed adopting :-)

[identity profile] painless-j.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, they are so huggable :) I love the last photo! Kitty bums :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually they battle amusingly for dominance of the tower, so the sharing was a photo opportunity not to be missed! And yes, very huggable!

Wow, they're beautiful! *admires*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
They are lovely girls. Cookie is the classic beauty, but Mon is filled with charm. And comedy!

[identity profile] brissygirl.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
They are very beautiful girls Brammers! You also inspired me to post pics of my mum's cats Here

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You mum has great cats! And yes, these two are beauties. Cookie was such a skinny scruff when we got her, but she blossomed!

[identity profile] stellamoon.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love your cats, AND your story!

I have a fully grown cat named Kitty (sometimes Miss Kitty) and she is tiny! She just never grew big. Ever since Grandma took her in as a pathetic and sickly stray, she has been so tiny and thin. Grandma died a few years back, and as promised, I took Kitty in. She is so precious (all black) and still as tiny as ever, weighing only 4 pounds. She really loves only me, and it's a rare and special occasion if she even allows anyone else to briefly pet her. Your description of Cookie reminds me of her.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she sounds delightful! Cookie was a tiny bit larger than that when we found her, and we thought she might not grow since she was between 18 months and two years old, but she did! I think it's a bit extra special to have a cat who had such a hard start, when they like you it feels as though you are in a privileged class of person. Good old Monster likes anyone -- especially if they have chicken!

[identity profile] ant3ka.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I love kitty pictures!! And yours are beautiful. :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! They are darling girls, even if they are completely batty (maybe a tiny bit of taking after owners ...)

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, your kitties are so cute! Your calico looks a little bit like mine.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sends Calico/Torty love to your kitty! Mon's colouring is so funny -- looked at from above she is a dark tortiseshell, from below a white calico. We had a day between finding her at the pound and picking her up, and Mr B was worried we would get the wrong kitten, but I knew her by the bars on her leg (as well as her snuffly affectionate snuggling).

[identity profile] sarcasticpixie.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, Cookie looks JUST like my old roommate's cat Ying! Precious little black-and-whites. :D

My own Min is loving the new condo and just this morning decided to christen the hardwood floor in my kitchen with some spectacular cat barf. :/

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
AH, the dulcet tones of kitty retching ...

I DO like a black and white cat. There was a pair at the vets' the other week that were the reverse of these two: a short-haired B&W and a long-haired tortie on top, calico beneath. We had such an urge to grab them, but the house is just too small!

And hurrah for Minerva! Pic spam time!

[identity profile] lotus-lizzy.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, how cute! They remind me very much of our two cats. I just want to cuddle with them! Thanks for the great pictures :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You are welcome to come and cuddle them any time!

[identity profile] ciraarana.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Your Cookie is the most adorable cat. Love those white paws, so pretty! The Monster is aptly named, too. Very interesting colouring.

I'm currently sitting two cats while their family is on holiday - Mokka, who has Cookie's fur and Monster's colouring, and Millie, whose facial expression can resemble Monster's and who loves nothing more than getting underfoot and viciously killing feathers. :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Feathers must die! They sound like excellent cats to hang out with.

Cookie is a beauty, which was a surprise as she was such a bedraggled little thing at first. Mr B was still grieving the Magnificent Min cat and had said that while I could have a new cat, she would be mine and he would just help out with the litter, because he was not ready to bond with another cat. When we went to pick her up, she was so small in the cat cage, and then skinny enough to climb out the patting portal on the top. He picked her up and patted her, telling her that she was too thin and would need to be fed up and that was the end of his reticence.

Monster is so naughty, but she is so funny at her naughtiness that she will never learn as it is rewarded with laughter and cuddles. We would be TERRIBLE parents!

[identity profile] tsosh.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
They're so beautiful and obviously lead a very happy life.
Cookie started to groom the kitten through the bars of her cage the moment we put it down.
Awww! Grown cats usually dislike kittens, so it must have been love at first sight.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It was! To this day Cookie will pin Mon down with a paw and groom her, despite Monster being considerably taller, longer and heavier.

You are another good cat caring person, so you know that the only secret to a happy life is giving them the love. Tragically that does not always mean a long life, too, but a short and happy one is not a bad one!

[identity profile] oldenuf2nb.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought I was the only one with a faucet drinker, only my YELLS at you until you turn it on for her.

They're lovely. I love my family of wee beasties more than is probably healthy.

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
My two insist that the only water fit for them to drink is either running from a bathroom tap or in anything I have soaking in the kitchen sink. They are quite noisy and insistant about the fact I must turn on the bathroom tap for them immediately after I wake, and of course at various intervals through the day.

[identity profile] lil-shepherd.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What lovely cats!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
They are beautiful beasties, and horribly spoiled. Worth it for the comedy, though!

[identity profile] cassie-black12.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They are just adorable. I'm now filled with a strong urge to tickle Cookie's tummy ♥

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She would love you for it!

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG SO CUTE!!!! *snuggles with all of them*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Monster would snuggle you right back! Cookie would look at you suspiciously for a while, but in the end be won over by the snuggles ;-)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_inbetween_/ 2010-07-28 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
They are os gorgeous as I told you in furiosity's, and their behaviour is eerily like my cats (who don't have luxurious tunnels so I "just" stumble over giant grotty plastic bags and boxes but esp. giant grotty plastic tentlike bags).

You "buy" them when you rescue them from a shelter?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You do have to buy them from shelters here. It's usually about $200 to cover the cost of desexing and registration with the council, which is less than what you normally pay at pet shops or from breeders.

There is nothing quite as good as a plastic bag if one is a cat!

[identity profile] gracefulfool.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, they're so cute! :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
They are very sweet, even when being evil, they're adorable.

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to visit those cats! I've managed to convince J-cat that the computer desk is not a cat tower, still working on B-cat's understanding. B-cat attempts to protect me from the interwebs anytime I sit down to the computer, but takes it a step further by rolling all over the desk and onto the keyboard....

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, you do!

Mon likes to point out which spaceships Mr B should kill, sometimes sitting in front of the screen to get a good look at them. Cookie was a laptop cat, but now lies alongside my thigh, reaches up a paw, hooks my shirt cuff with one claw and drags my hand down to her chest or tummy, where it is obviously meant to be. Demandocats!

[identity profile] illereyn.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
So cute!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
They are completely edible, aside from the being covered in fur and I want them alive thing. (But sometimes we give them little kisses on their heads, even though that is weird.)

[identity profile] enchanted-jae.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
What awesome cats! Yay, you for rescuing them!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
We always end up with rescue cats, the last one adopted us, so we adopted these two in her memory. Cookie had been in the pound for longer than anyone else and the volunteer there was 'Please take her, she's really nice!' I had thought she might end up being just a bit of a grumpy recluse cat, and was fine with that, but instead she is the sweetest animal I have ever known. It's lovely that she still has trust after her hard start in life!

[identity profile] silvershinigami.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I approve of this post!! <3 And I retaliate thusly:

P.S.

[identity profile] silvershinigami.livejournal.com 2010-07-29 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
This beastie, after discovering that we thought it was cute when he drank from the bathtub, insisted on ONLY drinking at the bathtub. Every 30 minutes. And he yelled until we did it.

We finally got so sick of it that we bought him a bubbly kitty water fountain to keep next to his water dish. >.>
