And I have to get up in 7 hours ...

The best comments on the Oz election have so far come from Twitter:
TheNDM

#ausvotes It's 'Kramer vs. Kramer' with Gillard & Abbott fighting for custody of the nation, except the nation wants the Greens to adopt it.

RT @oldspice Hello Australia. Look at your Parliament, now back at me. Sadly, it isn't me, but it is hung like me. #ausvotes

onepotchef Australia has spoken. We said "meh" #ausvotes

I cannot do any better than those at the moment, because I am knackered after a lovely weekend in Brissy with [livejournal.com profile] annes_stuff  -- which was unexpected, not thanks to the company, which was brilliant, but
because I generally just don't like Brisbane. It's too -- hot. And mally. But we spent hours down in the gallery precinct and it's brilliant! If you're ever there, there are multiple galleries and museums and a really good library all together, and all of them have EXCELLENT shops, which is why I have less money than I did on Friday, but more magnificent fashion books (Poiret and Vionnet! Yippee!)

Caught up with [livejournal.com profile] i_autumnheart , who had the comment of the evening while watching election coverage: when Warren Truss was being discussed, one of our pals commented that with a name like that, he was a natural for the Australian Sex Party. Autumn quietly and perfectly said, 'Only if he has a safe word,' and devastated the whole room.

I also met [livejournal.com profile] brissygirl , who is just as lovely in real life as she is online! And who was very kind about my deranged squirrel impersonation -- far too much wine and pavlova while watching the election the night before! As the number of exclamation points in the post testifies.

Trivia from the weekend: Anne's flatmate played on the Swedish National Cricket Team when he spent a year there as an exchange student. I asked him if he was a fine cricketer, to which he replied 'Not by Australian standards ... but reasonably good by Swedish.'

That's my favourite.

:bows: It was the natural result of the whole conversation by that stage! Nominative determinism FTW.

I'm glad youve made it home safe, and hope you manage some sleep in between deadlines this week. Look after yourself!

Old Spice strikes again!

(Btw, what's the difference between hung parliament and minority? Is it the lack of cooperation?)

A hung parliament means no one has a majority, which sometimes leads to a minority government. The other option is a coalition.

Basically a hung parliament is the legislature, minority government is one of the executive options when it happens.

LOL! I didn't know we had a national cricket team!

Sweden plays Cricket?

I suppose if Scotland plays cricket, then Sweden can to. Scotland plays against such first name countries as Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

LOL OLDSPICE.

Australia has spoken. We said "meh"

Sometimes I really think I should've done a politics degree. It is all so fun as well as so important!
