Italy advice needed!

I'm off to Firenze again in November, and am trying to fit in some extra jaunts while there. Annoyingly, Milano looks as though it may be out of the question, sorry kareina ! But I have hopes for a couple of research trips for a book I am working on.

Has anyone travelled to Viterbo or Bomarzo by public transport from Roma? Is it sensible to plan either or both as day trips? Is there a reliable bus between the two? And any way of getting up to Lago di Bolsena? I have been trawling through train schedules and Bomarzo at least seems quite doable, but any local experience or tips from those who have made the trip before would be gratefully received!

I haven't been to any of the other places, but in Firenze I can heartily recommend dining at Il Porcospino. The food is great, and the waitstaff are lovely.

That does look good! Our flat is right near my fave trattoria, but it will be good to somewhere a little posher without breaking the budget :-)
