NEED RIDICULOUS HELP

Work will be psycho for at least a week. Possibly two. And  half. Happily the lovely but not very useful person who is the reason for this will be gone soon and I can take complete control and run things sensibly relax.

But I need help.

You know that stuff that's a bit like cellophane, but lighter, and a bit like cling film/plastic wrap, but nicer, and people wrap sweets in it and you sometimes have wedding cake bags made out of it? You know, it's not waxed paper and it's not parchment, but it's a bit similar, and it's sort of cloudy but not really opaque? What the HELL is that stuff called? I have a photographer who has used it in his styling and the bugger has fled the country before I can ask him what he used.

I did say it was ridiculous ...

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] stellamoon  has suggested it could be BOPP film, and I think she may well be right. Now all I need is someone to save my sanity this week, and someone to finish my late fanfair fic. I had a dream last night that I came up with the most splendid end for it and was writing like a fiend. I woke up and realised I was still struggling with the first third, due to work sucking my brains out. Still, the print deadline is soon!

In cheerier news, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and late birthday to some of the loveliest people on my flist. [livejournal.com profile] sassy_cissa , I hope you had a splendid day and were pursued by people offering you cake and bubbles and dodgy photos of hot boys.

And to [livejournal.com profile] gossymer , I hope the day springs delicious surprises on you, and that the recent meh-ness goes!

Dearest [livejournal.com profile] tsosh , I am sorry that this year has brought such crapitude, but it was the universe being a bastard while you have been a wonderful friend to all creatures great and small. Quite a number of people have sent the universe very sternly worded letters on the subject, so I hope this birthday brings you a much fairer world that lasts for the rest of your days.

[livejournal.com profile] knic26 , you're a bloody champion and I hope that you have a splendid day of extreme jollity!

And for tomorrow, have a lovely day [livejournal.com profile] loghorea !

Fondue? Rice paper? Edible candy wrapper?

*thinks real hard*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's synthetic, if that's any help.

I cannot tell you how much I prefer editing craft and gardening to food: I know what everything is in craft and gardening!

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Edible film? *giggles*

We normally use rice paper over here, so I'm not too sure what the synthetic one is called. :/ Good luck finding out, though! :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
I love rice paper. Nougat wrapped in it fills me with joy and childhood memories.

Alas, this is some crappy wrapping thing I know not wot.

[identity profile] inamac.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
Silicon paper? Or photographer's gel (though that seems a bit specialist). Cellophane?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Finer and more transparent than silicone paper. It's most like cellophane, but finer and less crinkly.

How there can be so many things to do the same job is beyond me!

[identity profile] brissygirl.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm no help because I have no clue either. But good luck finding out! :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheers, dear!

[identity profile] ecosopher.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say tracing paper like you get at art supply shops - M did drafting and they used to use it for their plans... but it might be a bit thick, possibly.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, no. It's a specific paper that's sold for culinary and party purposes, but what it's called is a mystery to me. It's almost like freezer wrap, if that makes sense.

[identity profile] stellamoon.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, shopbakersnook.com has something called Confectionary Twisting Paper, but you can't really see it, so I'm not sure if it's the same thing. I think it's basically a wax paper.

Then there's Glassine, but I haven't really looked at anything glassine for a long time, so I don't remember if it has the qualities you describe. I do know that it's super smooth due the processing (it's paper, though, not a plastic product) and that it's nearly transparent. So, it fits that part of your description. I also know that it's often used to wrap food products.

That's all I got! ;)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very like glassine, but a little less papery and more filmy, and a little more transparent.

What has my life come to that I am asking these questions? I miss news journalism!

OOH! That could be it! Thanks! *Goes to check if it's available retail ...*

[identity profile] stellamoon.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
or BOPP film??? here . I think it looks smoother. (less crinkly)

You're very welcome. I hope that somehow helps you out. And I don't know anything about food grade plastic wraps. Hahaha. Just did a little internet research.
*hugs*

I know the stuff you mean, as I found it hard to find to wrap Christmas biscuits in. But no idea of its name - would probably go with cellophane and assume that it comes in more than one thickness!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's my fallback ;-)

[identity profile] sassy-cissa.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the birthday wishes, darling. My day was filled with friends and family. Today the baby is 20 and tomorrow the oldest leaves for France - so last night was pizza and pie (fresh raspberry for me and hubs and French silk *like a chocolate cream* for the boys.

A dear friend took me to lunch yesterday after I had to work for a bit...

Today is brunch with the family. So all in all - it's been brilliant!!

I tried to find what you're looking for but only came up with this cello squares.

I use these often at the holidays to wrap homemade caramels.

Hurrah! That sounds like a fabbo day! Those are close, but I think stellamoon has just hit the nail on the head. My flist knows all!

Confectioner's paper maybe? Here's a site with candy wrapping: http://www.sugarcraft.com/catalog/candies/candyfoils/candyfoils.htm

[identity profile] nenne.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what the plastic thingy is called, but I be a cheerleader to help you with your writing of late fanfair fic. Go!

[identity profile] tsosh.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhh thank you so much!

If only I had the universe's mail address... I'd love to send it some Anthrax envelope.

*boggles* Why are there so many options for doing the same thing?
