It was ...

… a very good last day. There was sun, salmon, some compost guarding, and some me guarding as she checked the laptop posed no threat.

And, at the end, with all of us kneeling around her cushions in the garden, she tried to bite the vet despite being sedated to the eyeballs. Because near-death does not mean a Min cat should give up the fight. The vet was incredibly charmed by this, and described it as extremely Minlike. The vet nurse cheered Min on, which I suspect was a trifle treacherous.

It is clear to me now that I cannot die before J, because, like the good, strong, tough man he is, he is bawling.

Thank you very much.

More with grump and umbrage -- what do you people think you are doing giving me an injection when I want to be sitting on the compost, you bastards! was the general theme -- but yes, much better than suffering and choking. How are you at hiding in towel drawers so that only your ears are visible?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And filled with salmon!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I;ve just noticed that your icon is parma violets, she always enjoyed eating mine.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And hugs back. Sorry about the snot on your shoulder, let me get you a tissue.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Cal. I hope that you are getting some sleep today and/or tonight.

She had a fresh scab on her head, so I know she tried to eat someone recently. I like to think it was the fat cat who lives behind us and who she had a lifelong war with.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, she was a grumpy trousered muppet to the very end. I am so relieved the weather stayed warm and dry, there would have been words otherwise.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for your kindness. She was a strangely big part of our lives. I've not had the heart to break it to some of the neighbours yet; maybe a little notice on the fence will be an easier thing for everyone who used to have a chat with her. Trust us to have a cat who required a social secretary.

Thanks, mahaliem, *hugs back*.

I've done something terrible.

I posted Min a card before I saw your post from the other day. I wish I could call it back somehow but I can't. I know it's the last thing you'll need.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not terrible at all! that's a lovely and kind thing to do! (But I will hide it from J, because he cried at the leftover kibble today.) She would have loved to receive post, and considered it her due. Then demanded we read it to her. And looked at us with the expression that said "Uh huh, so when do you feed me?"

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a bit crappy. Hugs were exchanged, and several more besides. J has now decided that I need to make millions so we can open the Min Cat Cat Home for Wayward Kitties. I live with a crazy cat lady disguised as a big bloke. XXX

Thank you, dear, *hugs back*

Ah, there can be dignity in grumpiness! Going out with a (cat-like) curse seems perfectly dignified to me :)

You know, I fear that while I could hide in a towel drawer with ease (if someone built an enormous chest of drawers that is, hehe), I'd struggle to show the tips of my ears. Alas, they aren't nearly perky and pointed enough! :D

Hope you're doing okay.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She was indeed. And sweet, too, under all of her grump. We were rather lucky she found us. *Hugs you back*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sass was her constant. Dignity was usually something she manages, save for those occasional moments of off-lap rolling. She really could never manage to recall that my legs are several inches shorter than J's ... Thank you.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, dear. She really was the best cat either of us have ever known, let alone owned.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It was all very Min-like.

I fear it would be unfair to ask you to sit in the towel drawer, anyway, since it's a bit hairy and we have only salmon and kibble in the way of food. We may have to keep it closed when a new cat comes into the house, and let the next animal find its own drawer.

We're okay, but a strange day of emptinesses and unnatural quietness.

[identity profile] alex-s9.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
He's alright, with a healthy appetite and no stomach upset for days now. He's sleeping with the other kitty on my bed right now. he probably lost a life or two on the way, though. I feel so sorry about Min, she seemed to be such a temperamental cat.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That is very good news!

Min wasn't flighty in her temper, she just assumed that the whole world was here to either cater to her or to vex her, and she was suitably grateful when she realised we were in the first category. Her standard response to the vexing creatures was to attempt to eat them. Cats all over Erskineville are suddenly more relaxed today ...

[identity profile] alex-s9.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it was a far-going assumption on my part, because my vet said that they had only one worse patient than my Pimpo. But than, that other kitty was appropriately called Bitch.

[identity profile] cloviss.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Min must have been a fabulous, opinionated tough girl. You were very lucky she chose you to supervise.

You gave her a good life and a clean death - the best gifts you could give.

Also J? Well, a man who could not be moved by the loss of a loved cat - not worth having.

I am so sorry for your loss - and will be having an unfortunately infrequent drink to Min's life.
