Another great day!
Mar. 4th, 2009 11:59 pmHappy birthday
aoifene ! You are one of my fave people on my flist. Not only did you encourage people to donate $525 to Victorian bushfire relief, but you write classy and clever stories and are just an adorable person in addition to being a keen talent.
Which makes it all the more shameful that the present I made for you last year and had intended to send you no later than Christmas is still sitting on my shelf. I have this posting issue: I sincerely believe that the package will somehow get to the post office, pay the postage, and pop itself in the box. I have popped it in my backpack, and it should only take a few days for me to remember to drop it in at the post at lunch. Brain of a fish, I tell you. A really thick fish.
Happy birthday, too, to
ldydark1 ! I don't know you that well, and I have a terrible feeling yoru friended me so you'd not list the end of fathers. Yeah, sorry. It'll happen, just, in a bit ...
AND GOOD FIRE NEWS.
There was a time I thought I would never be able to say that ... Depending on how you look at it, all those prayers for rain across Victoria were answered, or, all those Tasmanians looking at their ghastly weather and saying 'Go north!' and all those other people around the world looking at their snow or so on and saying 'You are wasted here!' combined to create some kind of Butterfly Effect.
This was Victoria last night:

Which was fantastic, because the gale-force winds did occur, but without the searing dry heat that was predicted, the huge firefronts that were predicted were not whipped up. SO a few trees fell on houses, which is bad, but they were not burning fiercely at the time, which is something.
At the time of typing, all the fires in Victoria are actually under control!
