Sago brain

I went to see the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain tonight, by myself because Mr B had a migraine and none of my local friends could make it at the last minute and I could not find [livejournal.com profile] pollymel's phone number, alas.

I did take the new ukulele I bought for myself for my birthday, which is a steel resonator concert uke and a thing of beauty. There was a play-along piece, which was HARD and I only found it on the internet on Monday despite looking weeks ago, so my efforts were patchy, though I did a good job with one of the tricky bits.

Although I was alone, I was not lonely, because UOGB audiences are lovely and the couple sitting beside me chatted cheerfully (she plays piano accordion, he guitar) and I had a book to read over interval, so combined with a great show, it was a lovely night out.

On the way out a lovely young woman in a great frock complimented me on my playing (the new uke has a terrific sound and I just skipped the really hard bits I knew I was going to cock up, playing something else in the right key. This is not false modesty, I am a good enough player to know enough to not expose the parts where I still play rather poorly!) She was charming and told me about her two banjos that she is learning to play. I was wanting to get back to see how Mr B was, so I did not do my standard thing of gossiping and ending up with a vague plan to catch up, but chatted on the way out and then bid her a good night, which I slightly regret, but I have one free Sunday morning between now and Easter as it is so she would have just grown to hate me.

However, since then, I have had the vague feeling I might have met her before. I do have an abysmal memory, but her hair was not awesome enough to be [livejournal.com profile] pollymel, I am pretty sure she was too short to be [livejournal.com profile] sinden, I don't think she's one of my mother's ex-girlfriends, and I don't think I've worked with her. She might just be from Newtown, or she might just be scouting interest for an all-girl Mumford and Sons Tribute Band, but whoever she is, it is going to nag at me for AGES! Clearly I will need to do more ukulele-related things until we cross paths again.

At which point I will probably find that she was working up to asking me where I got my T-shirt …
