(no subject)

Just looking at an old post that I am yet to finishing replying to comments on and I realised that it began 'Intellectually I am all over the Republican side of things …'

Americans, this does not mean what you think it means!

There are no small children near me -- HOW DO PARENTS DO IT? HOW???!!!

Hard, isn't it?! Especially for mummies.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I spend time with small kids, I recall why I have none. If you could get them from the shop around about 6 or 8, I might be OK, but the sudden gales of tears over nothing for a 1 and 5 year old! And I swear that I was not like that as a child, so I cannot relate at all (I actually wasn't, Mum tells me that I was like a miniature adult -- I suppose someone in our family had to be!)

You and Treacle and all the other mums I know have my endless admiration. And I have to confess, I totally understand parents who reach for the Phenergan or a spot of whisky in the bottle!

My children must be the weird ones because Phenergan and alcohol wire them up, not calm them down. Dammit!

Clearly, give up on the bairns and you take them in hopes of unconsciousness ;-)

Long live the Queen.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I did go on to say that emotionally, the Monarchy gets me every time. Mostly because I find I can live with occasional daft decisions by unelected Royals FAR more happily than the semi-regular dangerous decisions by elected numpties.

*Eye*

Down with the Queen, power to the people?

Well I've got to argue with somebody about something otherwise what is the Internet for?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh GOD no, have to MET the people? I say power to the people who read through both sides of an argument and make their own decisions before voting. Should make counting spectacularly easy!

;-P

It did not occur to me at ALL until I glanced at this afternoon and went O.O!

I DON'T KNOW AND I NEVER WANT TO FIND OUT.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew I should never have children when I left a baby in a bookshop. I am SO TIRED, Treacle is my hero!

*smirks*

Whenever childless couples I know start to wax poetic about the wonders of child-raising....I send over K's 6 year old twins for a visit.

The longest I've ever had to wait for the (frantic) 'when are you going to pick them up' phone call has been two hours.

My half-sister used to dump my nephew with me for up to three days at a time, but there is an exponential level of difficulty and horror from one child to two! Oh, SG is back to telling us about Cockie the cockatoo and his evil sister Lindus, and their nice mum Mrs Sally. No cocks yet, though we'll see how shouting 'Cockie!' at random moments goes through the day.

Most parents just wing it. In addition to making a lot of mistakes of course. Sometimes there is yelling. Mostly we just hide and hope that they will be OK. ;)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-19 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
My parents were hippies, so it was all very laissez-faire. But as an only child (my half sisters were on another continent), I think it was much easier! I've only ever seen Treacle with one girl before, two is much harder!

[identity profile] nenne.livejournal.com 2011-06-19 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
I have three. :)

This post scares me *whimpers*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
You will be fine! (Just screen for gastro!)

[identity profile] pennynovelette.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
how do we do it?

hmmm.... well, lately, after spending entire days calmly telling my child that screaming, shrieking, stomping feet, and crying because she is told no, I put her to bed, and entertain myself by reading your Draco/ Harry fics-- they are lovely:)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
HURRAH! I perform a public service!

Treacle's kids were mostly lovely (as they would be), but even lovely children are exhausting. I am glad that I always give the parents I employ really loose hours -- I need reminding now and then that it's not being a good boss or feminist, it's necessary!
