To the eternally youthful and wise [personal profile] anthimaeria, whose friendship, support and encouragement is largely responsible for the fact that I am in fandom, a very happy fortieth birthday!  You are a woman of great compassion and wit, and have truly magnificent hair and eyes. Really, what more could one want?

With much love, Brammers.

You are barking.

Which I love.

Utterly. But barking with an extensive collection of late medieval/early renaissance art books! XXX BB

Can you point me in the direction of any erotic woodcuts from the period? I'm turning up not much in my present searches.

Thank you dear Brammers! I do plan to have an appropriately medieval celebration. Bring out the mead! ;)

And dancing men! There must be rough-shod dancing men! (Hope it was all brilliant in every way.)

It was ! I really had a terrific day from start to finish. Hopefully an auspicious beginning to the new year. :)

How are things?

YAY! It will be an auspicious start. And the Year of the Rat is a year of good things for clever people, even if they need to work for them.

As for me ... Slow. The last few Mondays have been weird with no deadline, but the first one was all part of the winding up the mag and looking for work week, then last one was in NZ, and today was just slow and annoying. Particularly because the news in the region is huge (the East Timor attempted coup is actually a Very Big Thing, though I don't know if it's receiving coverage in the US) and I wanted to be involved in the reporting of it. Sigh.

So, beta-ed a story and read through These Fragile Bonds in prep for writing up the next few bits, did a bit of Fathers and a few pars of Worldcup and can almost use my finger to type with again. Just not the same really.

Which may explain why I have booked in to have my hair trimmed and coloured tomorrow. But I won't let him take it up above top-of-hip length, I'm redundant, not breaking up with J.

Oh, so you're a longhair, eh? (I really have to see a picture of you!) I've gotten my hair to mid-back a few times, but then it always drives me insane and I have to cut it. My hair is unbelievably thick and heavy, and when it's long, I look like one of those wild-haired troll dolls.

I just looked at the NY Times: no hint of any unrest in East Timor: what happened?

I have baby hair, which is why I can wear it long, which is just as well since growing hair and fingernails are my two mutant physical abilities. All that silica in the diet, I suppose. The only picture I have that has a whole me in it (not a bit leaping out of camera) is five years old, am trying to find another more recent (the obvious just taking one comes up against my lifelong hatred of having my photo taken!)

The main rebel leader in East Timor launched an attack on the President and Prime Minister's residences. The PM, Xanana Gusmao, and his family were unhurt. The President, Jose Ramos Horta, was shot twice and is in a serious condition in Darwin.

Reinado, the rebel leader, was killed in the return of fire. Now it remains to be seen if he was acting independently or if there is involvement from the Indonesian military. Australia has committed troops already. Try smh.com.au for some more details. All a bit spooky ...

You're eating silica? Ah, don't worry about a picture. Surely we will touch base in person sometime this year. It would be a great excuse for me to cross the pond again.

That is a startling development in East Timor. The myopia of the US news media continues to astound me. You would think nothing happened today other than the presidential candidates preparing for further primaries.

Well, our news only covered the Democratic candidates, they seem to have decided that McCain has it sewn up for the GOP. But yes, I do despair of US news. Fingers crossed it will turn out to be without Indonesian influence in any way. They have seemed to step away from East Timor in the last few years, I can only hope it's really the case.

I eat lots of veges that contain silica, but not sand, because that would be weird.

Yes, I was picturing you grinding rocks with your teeth. But yes, that would be weird. Just a bit.

I think it will be McCain for the GOP, but it could be either Clinton or Obama for the Dems. Due to Obama's blandness and inexperience, I'm hoping for Clinton but am not wild about her. I am also anxious to see who the VPs are, as that could influence my decision in the general election.

Is it crazy to expect a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket? I think I'd rather like that.

Oh, one other thing I did was resubscribe myself to Skyehawke since your kind attempt was never fixed (poor overwhelmed mods). Should I do an author request thingie to gain story posting privileges or can I turn to my enabled and techy friends (ie, you) and say "Help!" Same username, but failing at using it in any sane way.

I wonder. I don't know if they could work together or whether each of them would settle for less than chief executive. But I agree, that would be an awesome ticket. I wish we had the parliamentary system here. I think it makes much more sense.

Author request can take a long time. I can try to invite you again, but I will have to use a different username. I can try blame brampton (two words) and then you can delete the old one, or I can try b_brampton or Emma Brampton or another variation. What would you prefer?

Parliamentary systems are great. And far, far saner, even if there are occasional leadership struggles. (Ask Mr Brown ...)

I could just delete this identity and then rebuild it if inviting doesn't work ...

The invite should work in theory; I don't know if you can receive another invite under the same name, but maybe you can if you delete the first one. What do you mean by "rebuild"?

HAHAHAHAHAHAH! OK, you know that me = idiot thing? Skyehawke would not let me into its forums under the identity you created, but would let me into its archives, a fact I discover now when I realise they have discrete logins.

So it's worked there all along. And I was just going to bed, too ...

AH! Hilarious! I think the same thing happened to me when I first started on Skyehawke.

Have fun posting all your work! I like the way Skeyhawke looks onscreen, but the infrequency of reviews on that site (which has been echoed by other writers) disappoints me. Hopefully you'll do better than me in that respect.

Sweet dreams. :)
