Perspective

I was going to post a long and involved post asking why all the Worldcup palaver turned into such sturm und drang, donder and blitzen, Grumpy and Sleepy, but then the Monster kitten spent the last five minutes playing splashies with her water bowl and now I have two little cats sitting on my feet drying off in front of the heater.

And it occurs to me that rather than getting to the heart of why so many of my lovely friends were so drained by Worldcup (I was in the group drained before postings, as opposed to the group who lost the will to live during, who should not be confused with the mods who are even now forming a support network), what I really want to do is hire an aeroplane, jet round the world, pick everyone up, and bring you all here to play with the cats.

Bugger tea and Xanax, there's nothing like a kitten nomming on your toes to make the world seem a more pleasant place.

I'm waving furiously, hoping you don't miss me as you fly by because I really, really need to play with cats!

To be honest, I have been so stupidly busy with work and stuff in RL that I missed most of the upset during HDWC ... then again, I was so drained by the time I submitted my fic, that I was sort of happy to have the RL distractions.

I'm pointing you out to the pilot right now!

You and I were in the same group; I watched the emotions explode in several directions and all I could think was "How do any of you still have the energy for this?"

[Aside for kitten playing: did you know that many shelters have casual programs where you can come in and play with bored animals? The home that we rescued Monster from has a day a week where local kids are welcomed in for supervised kitty play, adults are allowed more often.]

I just go around the corner to my sister's when I need pet time; her American Eskimo is 35 lbs of big fluffy white lapdog. (Her cat is of the snooty variety, and seldom deigns to be petted.)

I know of one shelter not that far away that lets people volunteer to spend time stroking the kitties. Now that work is starting to become more manageable again, maybe I'll try to stop by sometime. :) Thanks for reminding me about it!

I am a big believer in kittens as therapy. My two are currently stalking each other in a comedic fashion, which is distracting me happily from the fact my ears are stuffed with snot. TMI, sorry!

Definitely. Almost any fluffy animal, actually, will do for me, but there is something extra special about a cuddly kitty.

Hope you are feeling better soon! *pets*
