Perspective

I was going to post a long and involved post asking why all the Worldcup palaver turned into such sturm und drang, donder and blitzen, Grumpy and Sleepy, but then the Monster kitten spent the last five minutes playing splashies with her water bowl and now I have two little cats sitting on my feet drying off in front of the heater.

And it occurs to me that rather than getting to the heart of why so many of my lovely friends were so drained by Worldcup (I was in the group drained before postings, as opposed to the group who lost the will to live during, who should not be confused with the mods who are even now forming a support network), what I really want to do is hire an aeroplane, jet round the world, pick everyone up, and bring you all here to play with the cats.

Bugger tea and Xanax, there's nothing like a kitten nomming on your toes to make the world seem a more pleasant place.

It's that Teutonic toughness, spurred on by your regularly spectacular weather. That and the frequent male nudity one encounters in Berlin (at least, one used to, I hope that hasn't changed!)

I think that the cats exude pheromones so that we calm down and are more susceptible to demands for food. And tummy rubs.

Teutonic toughness, yeah :-). As for the "regularly spectacular weather" - Berlin winters are dismal, summer is *now* and it lasts - hopefully - until June 14th. And why Chicago is called the Windy City when it's in Berlin that one has city grit flying in one's eyes ALL THE TIME, I don't know :-). "frequent male nudity" ... hm ... back in the 70ties, you mean?

Mid-80s. And I remember Berlin as having splendid autumns! Though that could have been because I was young and in love and everything had a golden tinge ...

I exaggerate - Berlin summers are gorgeous , and there are the occasional golden days in autumn. It is a great place to be in love :-).

Maybe I should spend my spare week in Germany rather than England later this year, I am starting to feel the pang of reminiscence ... it was indeed a perfect place to be in love. Even with the political craziness of those days.

If your come to Berlin, there's a couch and breakfast here any time you wish :-). (this is serious, btw, would love to meet you)

I need to do some serious planning; there's about 10 days' worth of stuff I need to do in Italy, but then I would feel stupid jumping on a plane and coming home. So it is either catch up with friends and family in England or Sweden, or else take a week or two for a gallery tour of Germany or Holland so that I can do some research on a few of my long-term projects.

If I go with the latter option, I will certainly come through Berlin and catch up, that would be great!

No, you need to spend it in England, in late Sept, early Oct, so we can totally meet up over there and cause havoc, and or mahem... with possibly theft of interesting British mail boxes. >.>

Sadly I am booked out for most of that period, and won't be in Italy until the beginning of November. You could hang around ...

Petting a cat generates an ionic field which is very soothing.

What kind of ions? Cations, of course.

That is wrongly hilarious, like your icon!

The icon is from the brilliantly hysterical Torchwood fic, Trying to Communicate, by Sam Storyteller, who is also responsible for the famous Stealing Harry, Laocoön's Children and Cartographer's Craft in HP fandom.
