I was just reading the TV guide, and this was the start of a review for tomorrow night's Spooks (a show that I have seen perhaps two minutes of):

"Environmental terrorism plagues MI5 as a group of activists invades the Thames Barrier, threatening to leave London vulnerable to an approaching tidal wave ..."

Well, it is an excellent plot.

Hey! It occurred to me today, His Dark Materials is actually steampunkish, too.

Someone else just pointed that out to me. And you're absolutely right! It's also fantasy steampunk, in contrast to the other steampunk works which seem to be more SF. I don't generally find SF very engaging as a woman... it usually is written in a very male, action-oriented sort of style, and I prefer character-driven fiction.

Mind if I send you more LGC plot details for feedback?

So is Firefly/Serenity Steampunk, too?

I'm still trying to grasp my head around the concept.

More space western. Doctor Who has some Steampunky elements ...
