This VP debate is weird ...

Tragically, there was work for me to do today, so I am only catching up with the VP debate now (and given that the weather made a solid bid for 100 deg F today, I'll probably run out and grab ice-cream to see me through it).

It may just be me, but my opening thought is: Why does Sarah Palin's body language all read as though she has a massive crush on Joe Biden?

The ice-cream will probably help this all make more sense, I should go and sort that mission before I start slashing them ...

SNORT! 36 degrees and blazing sun, it's early spring. I am going to be clinging to the walls of Florence and hugging them, chanting "Cool! COOL!" Just leave me there, or lure me away with gelato.

Actually, in the coverage here, Biden played the parent card far better in the debate, and he has much better reason to. It came across as sincere at that point, which is unusual. She does have great hair, though. I wish she was running for something she was qualified for, she'd be fantastic as a member of the IOC, for instance.

My money's on the chant going more like "Cold! Cold!" and that the luring will have to be done with hot chocolate. Which still works fine! I'm probably going to be exhausted by the time I get to Florence, I've just realised. Over three weeks I have a quick weekend trip to London with my parents and sister/BIL, then a weekend visit to a friend who lives in the middle of nowhere. I get back on Sunday evening only to leave for Barcelona for a week's conference eeeearly Monday morning. Then I have two days at home before Florence. Phew! So if I get stupidly drunk on the first evening I'll blame it on exhaustion. ;) I love a good excuse.

Palin scares me. I've seen clips of her speaking at her church, and the mix of politics and religion is quite frighening.

Una cioccolata calda, per favore!

I'll make sure that I have all the nouns for spirits in my head for you ;-)

Palin herself doesn't scare me, she's just a product of her culture. Palin as VP or Pres bloody terrifies me.

That's very kind of you. I'm sure all of Florence will thank you once you've exercised your drinking vocabulary enough to get me properly drunk and disorderly. :D

And yes, that's what I meant - it's the potential combo of her views, personality and a position of power that's so chilling.
