The look they gave me when I asked where they had been ... And the genuine confusion that anyone would be worried about the cats ... They're just lucky tyre slashing is illegal.
It's not so much the QLD as opposed to child protection, there are also other things that shit me off (which could potentially happen in any industry, just more likely where I work). Anyway I may call you later in the week to fill you in and let you know of my lack of progress with making stuff.
Do, I will say cheerful and supportive things and poke fun at the people who are giving you grief. And I believe that I would support you watching Gregory Peck DVD marathons rather than making things for a few weeks.
Yup. I suppose they had some basic idea that the local mice would keep them going, and the actual mad cat lady down the road, along with the grumpy garden women and J the Cat Man would all keep them alive if things started to look grim.
And, obviously, they were quite right.
I gave them my very best Princess Royal look of disdain and disapproval.
What awful people. Even if not "intentionally" so. What are cats trapped in a house supposed to eat? (I know I don't have to tell *you* this, it's just that idiocy can still astound me)
I'm glad the cats have a home and I hope they continue to be fed.
They left hem outside, so the local rats and mice were on the menu. It is a street with a lot of cat people, so I assume they thought we would not let them starve, which was right. It's rained for most of the last week, though.
I hope Scooter scratched the buggery out of them, she can be a bit crabby.
At least they were outside. And at least they had that Thai restaurant...
I know that there was a conception in an earlier generation that cats could "fend for themselves" off of mice and rats and squirrels etc.
But to expect your neighbors to feed your cats... I suppose it's like the Germans leaving small children at home unattended or with the neighbors downstairs to watch out for them if they need something. This actually used to happen, may still. I can't wrap my head around it, but some people think it's normal.
That Thai restaurant has been a boon to local cats, all those outdoor tables ...
Cats can fend for themselves, but it means they die young and have hard lives. I think that if you are going to take the enjoyment of cat ownership, you are obligated to do the work, too.
These people often expect their neighbours to keep an eye on car thieves who have several times had a go at their ludicrous car. I suspect that goodwill may be significantly lessened in future.
The average life of an outdoor cat here in New England is calculated to be about 2 years.
Is it illegal to wedge small sticks or toothpicks into the air vents of their tyres to flatten them? It's not actually slashing, just depriving the owner of use of the tyre.
I take it by "ludicrous" in reference to their car you mean expensive. So apparently, they could afford the car but not a pet sitter or to board their cats with the vet or something.
And they *expected* the neighbors to take care of them? Why not just ... I don't know ... ASK?!!! Like my friends who have a cat do: they ask a friend who also loves cats and has a key to come in every day and feed the cat, change the water and give him a little love. I imagine she changes the litter too. And they bring the friend a nice gift from their vacation in return. I bet there was at least one neighbor who would have likely been willing to do that for them if they just asked.
And aren't you experiencing a heat wave where the wild animals are dying of thirst right now?
To be fair, we live right beside the railway line and all the local cats enjoy visiting the Rat and Mice Snack Bar. In the street gardens that the nice lady down the road maintains, once can often find neat little rows of skulls ... And then there's the Thai restaurant on the corner.
I know! We get up in the night if we hear funny noises in case one of them has fallen behind something and can't get out!
I do think these people are appalling, though I can accept that they believed their cats would be fine. However, that just makes them stupid rather than evil, which is little better. At least they have no children.
HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT LOVE CATS??? ;) They are so soft&cuddly&purry!
When they deign to allow you to cuddle and pet... (which is why I am not a cat person; most of the cats I know are aloof and disinterested until I'm too busy to pay attention, and then they are demanding and annoying).
My Monster cat thinks she is a dog from watching too much Inspector Rex at an early age. The Cookie cat just frowns in disapproval and aloofs off up the hall ;-)
I used to have a friend who acquired a kitten in a house with three dogs of various ages - one just past puppyhood, one middle aged, and one senior. This cat rapidly became convinced she was a dog - she liked to sit on my chest and lick my face.
I often tell my residents there are three reasons for errors: ignorance, stupidity and laziness. Ignorance can be corrected. Stupidity is inherent and must simply be forgiven (but stupid people must be steered away from situations which require intelligent thought). Laziness is simply unacceptable and must be PUNISHED.
:( At least they have somewhere to call home (if cats do that :\). I don't know how anyone could leave cats on their own in the first place though... they should feel guilty!
How long exactly were they gone again? The longest I left my kitty was a weekend. Even then she was left comfortably inside with tons of food and water and my brother came by to check up and scoop out her box a couple times .
Now my kitty is 100% domesticated. Technically she's never supposed to be allowed outside. She still sneaks out sometimes and is the terror of the neighborhood. She' brought me dead moles, squirrels and mice and has beaten up almost every other cat in the area. A couple times I've had to come and pull her off of dogs before, even. It'd be quite funny if I wasn't so afraid that she'll actually lose one of those fights someday.
My icon is her as a kitten XD She's such a loudmouth.
No. It's the one they spent ages renovating the other year with the two of us and the rest ofthe neighbourhood suggesting they were wildly overcapitalising. They could get $900 for it pretty easily, but that's about what the market tops out at this far from the harbour, unless there are pools and saunas ;-)
