Cat's Cradle

I realised why the childhood string game is called cat's cradle today.

Last night Cookie was prancing about with a ball of perle cotton in her mouth, feeling very proud of herself for finding such a treasure.

This evening, when I arrived home, there was a network of threads strung about the living room, around pieces of furniture, through the cat tunnel (in three separate passes), and out into the kitchen. In the middle of the mess were two kitties happily chewing on the threads. I don't think I want to weave anything with that thread anymore ... kitty saliva is a bit manky.

In other kitty news, I have worked out how to podcast! So far all of my test pieces end after a few minutes with "Oof! Monster! You cannot eat the headset, and get off my diaphragm!"
"Mroaw?"
"There are no cats in Sansa's fic!"
"MROAWWWW?"
"You are no help."

I don't think you have a choice. What you're doing is a dramatic reading of Sansa's fic, accompanied by a cat chorus. Her meows could serve to punctuate dramatic bits much as a laugh track emphasizes comedy.

I shudder to think what she'll come up with for the sex scenes ...

She's much too young to produce a convincing mating cry.

Now I am snorfling, because whenever we are, er ... engaging in adult activities, she gives her little "Mroaw?" of "Are you doing something interesting? Can I help? Is there water involved? Could you turn the tap on?"

It's very hard to concentrate with cats looking on!

Our cats are thankfully discreet and stay away. But that may have something to do with the door being shut.

They also love to come into the bathroom for any reason. "Ooh, toothbrushing!" Whatever you're doing, cats will be interested. Especially if they can prevent you from doing it!

YES! Mon has Cookie obsessed with water now, too. So toothbrushing ends up being a case of start brushing, remove cats from basin, spit, repeat, rinse.

It's like a moth to a flame. Cats want everything to do with water except get it on their fur.

In one place I lived in California, I did get to watch one of my former cats swim across the flooded driveway to get to the other side, but that's the only voluntary incident of cats/water I've ever observed.

I will have to give the bath grouting a good scrub so that I can film Mon's antics for you without the shame of my slatternly housekeeping being on the net for all to see. She SITS in the stuff, and runs through the shower stream. Mad kitty!
