He's lovely, really ...

Mr Brammers on Tuesday night: Now listen, since you were late getting me your birthday list, and yesterday was hell and today was a holiday, I'm only going to have tomorrow to go shopping for your birthday, so things may not be as exciting as I was planning.

Me: What's wrong with shopping on Thursday?

Him: Well, you'll want something on Thursday morning, won't you? And then you'd want to do presents rather than have me go late-night shopping.

Me (testily): For my birthday that falls on Friday?

Him: Ah. Friday. Not Thursday, then.

Me: How long have we been together?

Him. Thirteen years. Fourteen? Is it fifteen? You do a really good outraged face, you know!

NB: You lot are all quite allowed to forget my birthday, because god knows I am shocking at keeping up to date with my flist's (and at my age, it does not hurt people to forget a few years have passed), but he and I have been together since 1995! Grrrrr!

On a related note, [livejournal.com profile] ayes_sid  for yesterday and to [livejournal.com profile] separatrix  for tomorrow! I am sending you great gift and relaxed Cake Day wishes!

I don't think that not knowing the days of the week in relation to the dates of the month counts as forgetting your birthday. He clearly knew the date, or he wouldn't be worried about it at all. He is just off on the days of the week this week.

PS Happy Birthday!

No, he sincerely thought it was the 28th. Grrrrr!

Oh, dear. Does he get partial credit for A) getting the month correct and B) thinking it was the day earlier, rather than the day later?

I wonder if you had a particularly noteworthy celebration one year on a Friday or Saturday before your birthday, and that date stuck with him because he so enjoyed the day?

I think it's just generalised vagueness, but I suppose I will take the vague with all of his good qualities. He is funny and good looking, which is better than humourless, ugly and good at dates ;-)
