The tale of treacle_tartlet

I met
treacle_tartlet through her partner, a lovely man we refer to as Blondie. I also call him the Tasmanian Goat Farmer, which is but one of his many accomplishments. The farming at the ends of the world thing will become relevant in a moment.
Today, he popped up on my phone while I was at work. The two of us being insanely busy people, this is unusual. I picked up.
'Yeah, G'day …' he said, with a voice that held exhaustion in every syllable.
That could only mean one thing. 'Treacle's in hospital with appendicitis?' I said.
'You got it in one!'
The funny thing is that he and I both had identical conversations with her over the weekend.
Us: If you are in pain, you should go back to the hospital. As you were told.
Her: They said acute pain!
Us: You can't stand up straight!
Her: Eh! That's nothing! I gave birth last month!
Us: This is not a standard baseline from which to calculate pain!
Blondie informs me that she is doing fine, is now without her appendix, and is staying in hospital with baby Squish for tonight at least so that the hospital can feel as though they have done their bit for mothers of small infants and harried goat farmers. Bless their caring hearts.
As I said to Blondie: 'There is such a thing as too stoic.' And even he, a man who has managed a farm single-handedly because he mangled the other hand while building something on the weekend, and I, a woman who cheerfully hopped around Paris with a cracked foot (Cal and Rai were right!), and my friend Nat from work who finally took the time out to X-ray the finger she broke two weeks ago last weekend, all shake our heads at
treacle_tartlet , even as we wish her a speedy recovery.
Those of you who know her, drop over to her LJ and leave her appalling amounts of well wishes and drabblage if you would be so kind. She'll need something to distract her from the mocking Blondie and I will be lovingly delivering. Her Small Girl will probably want to know if she can have the appendix in a nice jar ...

Date: 2010-05-18 06:50 pm (UTC)scan tech (as I'm packing up to leave the hospital): you need to wait for the doctor (sounding distinctly panicked)
me: why?
tech: you just do!
later.... doctor: no you can't go home and come back tomorrow to have it out then!
But seriously...I had a lot to do and I could almost stand up straight!
