Brrrrr!

Dear England,
I have found your cold!

Do you mind if we hold onto it for a little longer? as everyone is looking great in their scarves and the local homeless are well-rugged.

I don't remember the last Sydney 5 degree morning (I am in what is referred to as the coastal strip, despite being a few miles from any seawater.) The only downside is that it leads to being stuck in bed with cats pressed against the legs for warmth -- theirs rather than mine -- and god forbid one should wish to turn over!

Anyway, do enjoy the warmth, and be sure to send it home around August. Though if you would like to keep a bit in reserve for December and January, I am sure that no one here would mind!

No, no, take it back, England /o\

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry! I forgot you chaps were so much more extreme, yet with similarly awful insulation. I think Melburnians should be able to store some of their insane summer days to take the edge of the winters.

[identity profile] blindmouse.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's half past two in the afternoon and 9 degrees outside, D. My delicate Australian sensibilities can't deal with this :(

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Double everything! T-shirts, tights, even gloves. It seriously makes a massive difference: not only is there more between you and the outside, there are more layers of insulating air trapped. And shoes with thick soles. If you have none, pop in an inner sole. It keeps your feet insulated from the ground temps, which are dismal. Also, obviously, hat!

And if you are wearing two or three layers of tights, play around with some colours and textures. Black sheer over red opaque looks great, then throw a fishnet on top and it's even better!

[identity profile] why-am-i.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
IAWTC. England can have it all; I really have no objections.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Just saw your post: no hot water is RIDICULOUS! And against god and man! *Wishes for your hot to come back quickly, in water form at least!*

[identity profile] why-am-i.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's quite spectacularly unexciting, to tell you the truth. I got dressed under my doona this morning. I felt a bit ridiculous, but I also felt warm, so ...win!

Dad stayed at home today to wait for the repair man - apparently we got priority because we have neither heating nor hot water; if it'd had just been the heating, we'd have had to wait for over a week, because it seems that with the onset of the cold snap, lots of people have discovered problems with their heating... o.O

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's camping weather! And getting dressed under a doona is perfectly sensible in such conditions. I'm very pleased you were a priority: hope it's fixed by the time you get home!

[identity profile] maevemist.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
England can keep it until September I think and then return it in late January.

We got our first proper frost 2 days ago and last night was the first night I was actually cold all night. It was glorious!

[identity profile] maevemist.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I have just re-read my first sentence and I think I have it backwards...I want the cold to stay until September and then return again slowly, from late January onwards.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I got you! Yes, you're right. And I think we should be allowed to keep a small percentage in reserve for the inevitable early spring heatwave, followed by the lengthy summer heatwave, and certainly for the couple of days of Extreme Weather Conditions that seem to pop up every summer!

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Been down in the minuses for the past couple of nights here and it's too bloody cold. I've had to light the fire mid-morning. bah. And then when morning does come the fog settles in around here until next week, when it might lift for half an hour. I've been putting off lighting the fire here today and am rugged up in clothes (duh) and my dressing gown, plus am wrapped up in a sleeping bag of all things, lol. Most of me is toasty warm, except my fingers and face. *am off to light the fire now. Talking about it made me shiver all over*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh lambchop! Should I send gloves? I have a spare pair of fingerless gauntlets that I will never wear again: I can seriously post them down to you if you email me an addy! You can type in them, and all!

[identity profile] jamie2109.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, no it's fine, you are a love, though. ♥ I forgot to mention that I was wearing a pair of fingerless gloves. *waggles them* I keep wanting to pull them down to cover the tips though haha.

However, I have lit the fire and shall be all toasty warm very shortly

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
I bought a pair last year, which I loved, but then knit a pair for Mr Brammers, and misjudged the size a bit, so they fit me perfectly, even more so than the bought pair. Since I only have two hands, I have been looking for a home for the others!

Hurrah for the toasty fire! I went for a walk/run and chilled my lungs! Ridiculous!

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm perfectly happy for England to have its cold back - its been decidedly nippy here, -4 overnight, two nights running, actually had to put the car in the garage today so I don't have to scrape ice off again in the morning....
And still trying to recover from plague, a bit of sunshine and warmth would be lovely at present.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Alas, I cannot help with the sunshine. Want some fingerless gloves? And actually, I have a really cute Wayne Cooper knit top that has texture thanks to a series of diamonds all over it, which I thought I would be thin enough for again, but am not. You on the other hand, are! Light enough to be an undertop, or to wear over something else and shed later. It would make me happy to find a home for it!

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
ooh the top would be lovely, though I already have two pairs of fingerless gloves. Wear them when driving to work, the boss saw me a few weeks ago, I'd just arrived and still had my leather jacket on and wearing fingerless gloves - he said he didn't know what look I was aiming for - biker chick or dickensian homelessness :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
AHAHAHAHAHA! Good-oh, I will pop it in the post tomorrow! You're still at the house on the street with the silly name?

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes - I haven't moved.

Okay. We should probably keep it until mid-July, but then we would like to give it back.

HOW DID YOU SLEEP?

I'd have needed earplugs under earmuffs ;-)

Yeah, I have to say it is a nice shock to actually need my European warm stuff down here. The other winter I pulled out my medium-weight coat for exactly one day.

I hope this doesn't mean next summer will be like the one before last, with maxima of 38-42 day after day. Last summer had ridiculously high minima, but it was only a few degrees hotter through the day.

I don't know. Sheer tiredness?

Here in the U.K. we are roasting. There is record heatstroke!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, my nice cousin tells me he has been sweltering down in subtropical Kent. If it keeps up I am going to send him some of my Factor 30+, and he can grab me some woolly vests!

[personal profile] aella_irene 2010-06-29 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
...I am torn between wanting the heat to go away, and the fact that we are meant to be travelling through the mighty Kentish jungles for a family do on the 10th.

Dude, we want some of it back! It's too freaking hot here! *is melting, MELTING*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
It is seriously as though five degrees have gone walkabout from here to there! Madness! Let me know if you need sunblock recommendations, I have the expertise!

[identity profile] wivern.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm enjoying it so much. And hoping we can keep some for summer.

*giggles* The comments on this post are amazing

NO, GIVE IT BACK. Here, have your heat! I'm sure you'll deal with it much more gracefully than we do.

:) I have that problem in winter myself!

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
*sends you some heat from Malaysia* It's been scorching lately. *pets you*

[identity profile] mabonwitch.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's properly summer here; it was a scorching 103F the other day. *is sunburnt* I'm not good at telling when to re-apply sunscreen, alas. Also, leather jackets for gay Pride and 90 degree weather do not go together.
