Just had another scary Twitter follower appear

[livejournal.com profile] wemyss  and [livejournal.com profile] shezan , you in particular will laugh at this.

I have a Twitter account, which I rarely use and is under a different name. One of the people who is on my flist and on my Twitter list posted a link to my Aus politics in Harry Potter terms post of last month using my Twitter name – which was perfectly fine! A very small number of people put two and two together and followed my Twitter after reading the post. Very briefly in most cases, for reasons that I will outline.

Every single one of them has been a Conservative. A really, really conservative Conservative, not an I find Boris Johnson strangely appealing and do believe in free trade but not in a wholly unregulated market, dipping my little toe in the waters of conservatism but really a Bleeding-Heart Leftie type, like me.

In fact, most have been so scarily conservative that I have not been able to Follow them on Twitter because I would froth too much, and I prefer to use it as a medium to discuss hairstyles, local cafes, meet-ups and Bob Katter on Q&A.

Intrigued, I vanity-googled my post to see if they were all coming from somewhere, and discovered that there are people who read that post who are convinced I am a card-carrying socially wet, economically dry Liberal. Which for Americans would equate to a Reagan-era Republican before they turned all gung-ho and Rambo-esque, and for Brits equates to, er, Boris Johnson.

I am counting this as a win on the not trumpeting bias front. Alas, we have a government again now, though, as both sides have appointed the previous leaders to high ranking positions in a bid to 'get past all this messy leadership coup business', things are still entertaining.

And in related internet matters, thanks, [livejournal.com profile] fourth_rose !

Okay, I'm confused.

Boris Johnson is a Conservative Mayor, running for re-election and saying he'll campaign as an opponent to his party's coalition with the Liberals.

So he's not a Liberal leaning Conservative.

Cameron on the other hand, he's totally in love with Clegg! *lol*

You're very welcome - happy uploading! :)

I had to read this three times to get that it was all logical and I had just been pining for more comas when really, I write endless box sentences myself and even without knowing Boris, I should remember more easily that Liberal is not left. Mainly though you made me regret what I'd just done, ie. invited the only two people I know to my first exhibition. I swore the one not to ever mention "inbetween" and the other not to mock too loudly, but I'd kept my lives so completely apart that this one link (to art) too easily leads to my LJ. And all that without FB or Twitter and being ungooglable.

Mmmmmh, ungooglable.

Serves you right for finding Boris Johnson appealing. ;-)

We were flying back from somewhere, I think it might be Spain, and I noticed a very blonde figure in the queue. I had to stop myself from peering too intently and squeeing mildly as it was B J himself. Shorter than I had expected, but with that affable air of charming bewilderment about him and delightfully crumpled. :-)

Boris! Oh, I really am fond of him. I think it's the bemused air of dishevelment combined with a self-deprecating wit. I find it terribly charming even when I disagree with his views.

I'm a wee bit tempted to join the twit and follow you merely for the Hairstyle commentary. I might even be able to respond with useful information! But that would suck even more of my time into the vortex of time wasting online presence.

See, this is what happens when you are seduced by the perfect silvery hair of Malcolm Turnbull. It's a slippery slope which clearly you're sliding down if you think there is anything much redeemable about Boris Johnson. There is clearly a need for re-education:

Repeat after me: What do Tories do? They grind the faces of the working poor.

Then go and listen to the complete works of Alistair Hulett.

And follow our PM's lead and buy yourself a book on the Tolpuddle Martyrs.

Rinse. Repeat.

I have nothing important to add to this discussion except to ask:

Did I get you into trouble somehow? Because I think I was the one who posted that thing on Twitter. Or was I the only one? I can't remember, Brammers! I'm sorry!

Also, "vanity-googling" should be an official verb. As well as other Google related activities. (If you'd care to make a dictionary, I'll help with its publicity.)

Sometimes, I wish I live in a country where the politics actually matter so I don't have to post stupid comments like this!

Googling Boris turns up a lot of controversy, but I am not sure what the reaction should be to his name!
