Ah flist, you're fabulous

I know that I am very biased, but I just wanted to say that you lot are champion. That was SUCH a fun discussion in my last post, and so many interesting points were raised in support of several different stances. Why can't politics and diplomacy be conducted with that much civility and focus?

If you're still bubbling with QoM discussion you'd like to voice in different discussions, check out the thread at [livejournal.com profile] ddg_and_sundry , you can find it here. Or drop by [livejournal.com profile] gossymer 's journal and weigh in on her discussion on whether you read fic for the H/D (or other OTP) or for the fic first. Lots of cleverness!

Another slightly late happy birthday to Amy, but I wished you an early HB first! and, in today's important news,
Happy Birthday pingrid!!!

I have a little pressie that I will hand over in November, and was going to come up with a costume-porn centric drabble (NB that's porn regarding textiles, not people, I rock at the former and am rubbish at the latter, let me talk to you of twill weaves and thrown silk!), but I am still too flattened from Pilgrim Flu, so you will have to do with bright red text and my hopes that you are currently painting Oslo the same colour!

That flu is terrible and I begin to think it is spreading via interwebs, so many of my friends both here and elsewhere online have had it, myself included.

*sends you chicken soup and warm bread* Sorry to hear it is keeping you down :(

PS: i love textiles. In a game I play I am terrible at collecting textures of fabrics in particular, used for creating items in world. I also cannot go near a fabric store without coming out with large bags of fabric. to go with the huge plastic boxs of fabric I alreayd have.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the World Youth Day pilgrims! They came, gave it to everyone, then they took it back home to their respective cities. Three and a half weeks of coughing up goo so far! Bleagh!

Thank you so much for the soup, and the bread is delicious!

I know that collection problem! I've started selling on and giving away some bolts of mine just so they have a hope of being made into clothes some day.

[identity profile] violetage.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't doubt it. It's been a bit scary so many have been seriously ill. Bleh. You're welcome.

I am such a packrat. I have given a fair few bits and pieces away but yet I feel a twinge when I do.

There's a little kid in me going, "Mine, Shiny, Mine"

*laughs at self*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHA! I know that little kid! I had a friend who needed a bolt of silk and she was being shown a few that I was coming to accept I;d never actually make into big frocks. She spotted a length or red Duchess and was "Oooooh!" and I replied "NOOOOOO! MINE!!!"

[identity profile] annes-stuff.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If you ever come to give away that particular length of fabric I believe I have first dibs on it as I was with you when you bought it. Remember, I drove you to the store.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You do indeed, and I have not forgotten this ;-) I also know exactly the dress that you should make should this turn of events ever occur. I plan to research the one I will make from it in Italy (rubs hands together with glee).

[identity profile] annes-stuff.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok what dress should I make from it?

Also what dress are you planning to research while you are in Italy?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll show you next weekend, for both questions.

[identity profile] annes-stuff.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, I can't wait.

Do you think you will get to look at Eleanora's stockings while you are in Italy?
Edited 2008-09-20 13:12 (UTC)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
OH! I meant to tell you! It's Medici grave clothes abungo, so I have every hope! Will take many, many photos for you.

[identity profile] annes-stuff.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Must not salivate of keyboard.

Oh, so this means you will get to see Eleanora's burial dress as well.

Is it just the stuff the Medici's wore or will it be stuff that Janet Arnold wrote about in patterns of fashion as well?

I finally got around to introducing Mr Rutt and Mr Scanner today. I hope to scan the details on historical knitting from that other book you lent me as well.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I have a great new embroidery one you will probably want to scan while you're here, as well ;-)

Not really sure what's in which collection at the moment, so I plan to be my most astonishingly charming to everyone I meet so that they will all let me have a look at their own collections at the sundry museums many of them represent. In return, I can correct the grammar in papers they submit to English journals ;-)

[identity profile] violetage.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah! Yay, I am not the only one. I have on, occasion, huggled an especially lovely fabric. Doh!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Donna Karan merino cashmere blend with a napped finish ... I patted it until a glazed expression came over my face ...

[identity profile] tomatoe18.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The birthday greeting in the e-mail was duly noted. :) I had warm and fuzzy feelings reading it, although I think I haven't replied to that e-mail yet? The past few days have been slightly confusing for me. ^^;;

But, seriously now, why is the flu not cured yet? I'm worried. :|

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
HAH! Yes, EARLY, for once ;-) And I hope they have been confusing because you have been having a great time and receiving more cakes!

Apparently it's influenza B which takes several weeks to get over and leaves you with coughing and fatigue for some time. At least I haven't developed bronchitis, unlike many Sydneysiders! Poor bastards. It's a shame you cant get cough syrup with alcohol anymore, though. That would take the edge off ;-)

[identity profile] tomatoe18.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, great time, yes definitely. No more cakes, sadly, but I was occupied with some belated birthday greetings from my overseas friends! (Damn time zones...)

There used to be cough syrup with alcohol?! I didn't even know those two things could even be mixed! But I have no doubt that a little bit of alcohol in your life can do nothing but good for your health. When I was living in Italy, I easily get cured from flu symptoms by drinking wine.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope I don't have to wait until I get to Italy to be cured!

[identity profile] tomatoe18.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I sure hope not!!!

(By the way, I find that I'm jealous of the fact that you'll be going to Italy. Like, really jealous.)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-20 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you could always pop over for a week ;-)

I think I'll be going back next year with J, as I do not have enough time or ready cash to do half the things I wanted to do this year.

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, my dear! *smooches* Mmmm, yes, talk textiles to me! :D

There wasn't quite enough red paing for the whole town, but I did have a wonderful dinner with close friends, then moved on to drinks and half a burlesque show. All in all, a very good day!

I think the Pilgrim Flu must be a cosmic dig at organised religion. Hope you shake it completely really soon!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh! I will be LADEN with photos and reports and conference papers when I see you, and I will share generously ;-)

Glad to hear that there was some town painting!

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of nearly forgot my birthday this year, so instead of the traditional invite_40_guests_to_my_50m2_flat shebang I took the easy option that involved no cleaning. ;)

And I will devour your conference loot! :D Do you think you'll be sick of the Pitti by the time I get there, or are you up for one more round?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I am planning to schmooze like a lunatic so that all the local curators think of me as a short, deranged sister by the time you get there ;-)

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I approve of your plan! It's important for an invading army to send scouts to sound out the terrain, and I'm grateful that you've volunteered to put yourself into the way of danger for us! :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine, I look completely harmless, so make a good scout, no one can spot the evil within!

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the kind of clever disguise that makes you a real asset to the forces of darkness. Well done!

How many pairs of boots and shoes is one allowed to bring to Italy without risking the ridicule of one's peers? I've just realised that I didn't want to buy a single pair there last time, so I need to be prepared - but it does feel a bit unnatural to bring of suitcase full of shoes to Florence.
Edited 2008-09-21 13:09 (UTC)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I think more than two pairs a day could see me giggling discreetly, unless you plan to give us all a little fashion showing, I;m sur Shiv would like it!

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If descreet giggles is the worst of the sanctions, I'm not too bothered. ;) But I think even I won't bring ten pairs! :D Reason shall prevail, I'm sure.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And weight limits on the plane! You can help me find a pair of shoes and shop vicariously ;-)

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Damned weight limits. *grumble* But ha, there's always the option of mailing things home if we find too many pairs we like! :D And vicarious shopping is still shopping, it'll do in a pinch. ;)

[identity profile] winnett.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you are pretty amazing yourself!

I still haven't read the fic. I'm so out of it! *whines* I'll have to come back and read all this stuff after I finish.
