Ah flist, you're fabulous
I know that I am very biased, but I just wanted to say that you lot are champion. That was SUCH a fun discussion in my last post, and so many interesting points were raised in support of several different stances. Why can't politics and diplomacy be conducted with that much civility and focus?
If you're still bubbling with QoM discussion you'd like to voice in different discussions, check out the thread at
ddg_and_sundry , you can find it here. Or drop by
gossymer 's journal and weigh in on her discussion on whether you read fic for the H/D (or other OTP) or for the fic first. Lots of cleverness!
Another slightly late happy birthday to Amy, but I wished you an early HB first! and, in today's important news,
I have a little pressie that I will hand over in November, and was going to come up with a costume-porn centric drabble (NB that's porn regarding textiles, not people, I rock at the former and am rubbish at the latter, let me talk to you of twill weaves and thrown silk!), but I am still too flattened from Pilgrim Flu, so you will have to do with bright red text and my hopes that you are currently painting Oslo the same colour!

*sends you chicken soup and warm bread* Sorry to hear it is keeping you down :(
PS: i love textiles. In a game I play I am terrible at collecting textures of fabrics in particular, used for creating items in world. I also cannot go near a fabric store without coming out with large bags of fabric. to go with the huge plastic boxs of fabric I alreayd have.

Thank you so much for the soup, and the bread is delicious!
I know that collection problem! I've started selling on and giving away some bolts of mine just so they have a hope of being made into clothes some day.

I am such a packrat. I have given a fair few bits and pieces away but yet I feel a twinge when I do.
There's a little kid in me going, "Mine, Shiny, Mine"
*laughs at self*

Also what dress are you planning to research while you are in Italy?

Do you think you will get to look at Eleanora's stockings while you are in Italy?

Oh, so this means you will get to see Eleanora's burial dress as well.
Is it just the stuff the Medici's wore or will it be stuff that Janet Arnold wrote about in patterns of fashion as well?
I finally got around to introducing Mr Rutt and Mr Scanner today. I hope to scan the details on historical knitting from that other book you lent me as well.

Not really sure what's in which collection at the moment, so I plan to be my most astonishingly charming to everyone I meet so that they will all let me have a look at their own collections at the sundry museums many of them represent. In return, I can correct the grammar in papers they submit to English journals ;-)

But, seriously now, why is the flu not cured yet? I'm worried. :|

Apparently it's influenza B which takes several weeks to get over and leaves you with coughing and fatigue for some time. At least I haven't developed bronchitis, unlike many Sydneysiders! Poor bastards. It's a shame you cant get cough syrup with alcohol anymore, though. That would take the edge off ;-)
no subject
There used to be cough syrup with alcohol?! I didn't even know those two things could even be mixed! But I have no doubt that a little bit of alcohol in your life can do nothing but good for your health. When I was living in Italy, I easily get cured from flu symptoms by drinking wine.

(By the way, I find that I'm jealous of the fact that you'll be going to Italy. Like, really jealous.)

I think I'll be going back next year with J, as I do not have enough time or ready cash to do half the things I wanted to do this year.

There wasn't quite enough red paing for the whole town, but I did have a wonderful dinner with close friends, then moved on to drinks and half a burlesque show. All in all, a very good day!
I think the Pilgrim Flu must be a cosmic dig at organised religion. Hope you shake it completely really soon!

Glad to hear that there was some town painting!

And I will devour your conference loot! :D Do you think you'll be sick of the Pitti by the time I get there, or are you up for one more round?

How many pairs of boots and shoes is one allowed to bring to Italy without risking the ridicule of one's peers? I've just realised that I didn't want to buy a single pair there last time, so I need to be prepared - but it does feel a bit unnatural to bring of suitcase full of shoes to Florence.

I still haven't read the fic. I'm so out of it! *whines* I'll have to come back and read all this stuff after I finish.
