I've just realised ...
* America has a President who has actually done a reasonable to good job in extremely trying circumstances, but almost everyone hates him passionately anyway and is likely to vote for someone far less able next time (and without even Reagan's redeeming qualities).
* It's bleedingly obvious that our reliance on oil is fucking up the entire world, but people are sticking their fingers in their ears and singing LALALALALALA! when alternatives are announced.
* I have a fringe.
* The global economy is tanking due to private over-reach being blamed entirely on governments (who in reality mostly bear a part of the blame, but very rarely even the bare majority of it).
* Skylab Redux is about to occur.
We are TOTALLY reliving the 1970s!
If you hear any whistling sounds coming from above this afternoon, duck, and then grab a pair of tongs and see if you can pick up a sale-able piece of space junk!

As for skylab redux - all I'm gonna say is duck and weave. And yes - make sure you observe appropriate safety protocols when handling potentially radioactive space junk :)

The first one may make me lose my mind, though. So true and so upsetting.

Also, I heard the pieces were going to weigh at least 300 pounds a piece. That would require some awfully big tongs.

Normally my student neighbores from up above just ash on my head or empty their toasters when I am smoking on my balcony. A piece of space junk would make such a welcome difference.
Glad you have a fringe. I shall keep my frizz. Yesternight I saw loads of gals with glizzed hair made to hang straight off their heads and they all looked just the same: made of ticky tacky, so I´ll try and stick out by way of fake afro. I think there is a name for the middle-aged variety I offer but I forgot. The glizzy fake blondes all appeard for a socalled speed-dating occasion in my streetbar and my friends and me almost laughed our heads off at the participants in their too-tight pants (the boys had glued hairdoes). Not nice of us but good clean fun.

Yay fringe?

Except without the music...
The fact that bisexuality is momentarily trendy again is also very 1970's.
And Obama is totally the Jimmy Carter of the 21st century. Looks like the US might be in for 8 years of Romney.

Poor Barack. The Right hates him for being too liberal, and the Left hates him for not being liberal enough. We need another FDR - but I fear there isn't one in sight. We all thought he would be, but have been woefully disappointed.
