I've just realised ...

* America has a President who has actually done a reasonable to good job in extremely trying circumstances, but almost everyone hates him passionately anyway and is likely to vote for someone far less able next time (and without even Reagan's redeeming qualities).

* It's bleedingly obvious that our reliance on oil is fucking up the entire world, but people are sticking their fingers in their ears and singing LALALALALALA! when alternatives are announced.

* I have a fringe.

* The global economy is tanking due to private over-reach being blamed entirely on governments (who in reality mostly bear a part of the blame, but very rarely even the bare majority of it).

* Skylab Redux is about to occur.

We are TOTALLY reliving the 1970s!

If you hear any whistling sounds coming from above this afternoon, duck, and then grab a pair of tongs and see if you can pick up a sale-able piece of space junk!

These moments of utter clarity are (as usual) spot on. And I like the fact that you realising you have a fringe is rated as equally important (because it is).

As for skylab redux - all I'm gonna say is duck and weave. And yes - make sure you observe appropriate safety protocols when handling potentially radioactive space junk :)

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My fringes are about as common as major space junk impacting ;-) It's just a little sweepy one, nothing Anna Wintour!

And duck and weave indeed!

[identity profile] shu-shu-sleeps.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
So glad to hear you have not gone all Anna Wintour on me :) Somehow I cannot imagine you ever having a chunky hunk of fringe (don't the americans call them bangs?) - it just wouldn't suit, buit little sweepy would look fantastic....

OMG. SO EFFING TRUE. *headdesk* We never learn.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, at least this time you're not seeing flares everywhere ...

[identity profile] nuclearsugars.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
One thing my dad likes to do is blame every day inconveniences on Obama. Burnt toast? It's Obama's fault. Probably because it was socialist toast. ;P

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor Obama! At the moment, he either needs to bump off someone all Americans hate again, or else survive an attack himself if he;s to claw back popularity ratings. I vote for him outlawing Donald Trump.

[identity profile] annafugazzi.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Too damn true.

One of the fake news anchors - I think it was Jon Stewart - commented about two weeks after Bin Laden died that "After a brief surge in popularity, President Obama's approval rating is back down to pre-Bin Laden figures. Proving, beyond all doubt, that there is absolutely nothing he can do to get Americans to like him."

[identity profile] kerryblaze.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! WE ARE!!!! Whenever I think of the 70s as a child, I remember lines at the petrol/gas station, Elvis dying, Skylab, and three mile island.

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Michael Jackson, Fukushima ... AND Charlie's Angels is back on the TV. I refuse to wear flicks in my hair!

[identity profile] auntpurl.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wait! Reagan had redeeming qualities?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hair! He had great hair!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Enormous personal charisma, which was actually useful in his Glasnost-related efforts. And that's about it ... I'm sure there was something else, but it escapes me. Oh, good sense of humour!

*puts on my David Soul LP for the full effect*

*uses vintage icon*

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, David Soul ... At least Star Wars was better in the 1970s!

[identity profile] melusinahp.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with all of these. *grabs tongs*

The first one may make me lose my mind, though. So true and so upsetting.

[identity profile] spirillen.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
To add to this: John Lewis' latest advert features lots of yummy things for the home - in orange! What's worse is that I quite like them, which surely has not been acceptable since the seventies....

[identity profile] themostepotente.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, the 70s :(((

Also, I heard the pieces were going to weigh at least 300 pounds a piece. That would require some awfully big tongs.

[identity profile] la-mariane.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
We are TOTALLY reliving the 1970s! I hadn't realised, but now that you say it... and we didn't even get to have our version of the 60s before :(

:( Plus, in a little while the Tories will gleefully union-bust!

[identity profile] annafugazzi.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Beautiful. And also painful. Like a flaming piece of space station ;)

[identity profile] karinmollberg.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It can only get worse, all.

Normally my student neighbores from up above just ash on my head or empty their toasters when I am smoking on my balcony. A piece of space junk would make such a welcome difference.
Glad you have a fringe. I shall keep my frizz. Yesternight I saw loads of gals with glizzed hair made to hang straight off their heads and they all looked just the same: made of ticky tacky, so I´ll try and stick out by way of fake afro. I think there is a name for the middle-aged variety I offer but I forgot. The glizzy fake blondes all appeard for a socalled speed-dating occasion in my streetbar and my friends and me almost laughed our heads off at the participants in their too-tight pants (the boys had glued hairdoes). Not nice of us but good clean fun.

[identity profile] subtlefire.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that first...I have so many feelings about your first point. And the feelings get all jumbled up and the words tangle around each other, so that I can't get much out. But yes, to your first point.

OIL, grr!

Yay fringe?

GREEDY BASTARDS.

*ducks*

[identity profile] shiv5468.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM NOT WEARING FLARES AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME

[identity profile] norton-gale.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
But are you wearing platforms?

[identity profile] shiv5468.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, yes. I have to admit I am.

But they're nice tasteful leopardskin platforms....

OMG I am living in the seventies.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_inbetween_/ 2011-09-24 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I forgot what Reagan*s qualities might have been but it was typical that I never caught the omgyayvoteBO bug but was more positive towards him when everyone who had passionately hyped started hating him. Human nature *pulls a face* I think I stop now and stuff my face with something bad for me.

[identity profile] norton-gale.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
We are TOTALLY reliving the 1970s!

Except without the music...

The fact that bisexuality is momentarily trendy again is also very 1970's.

And Obama is totally the Jimmy Carter of the 21st century. Looks like the US might be in for 8 years of Romney.

Better him than Perry! Or, Merlin help us, Bachmann.

[identity profile] norton-gale.livejournal.com 2011-09-26 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
True! Romney is downright liberal compared to them. But Perry and Bachmann are true fringe candidates... I doubt either will get the nomination.

I feel the same way about the Australian (I.E., my) head of state Julia Gilliad, first atheist, first non-married, first female Australian Prime Minister, of course everything that has gone wrong is entirely her fault according to the right-wingers.

[identity profile] mrsquizzical.livejournal.com 2011-09-25 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
the more things change, the more they stay the same. *sigh*

At least here in the US, the "private over-reach" is indeed the fault of government, as the Republicans have systematically dismantled all the regulations that were created in the 1930's to prevent this the LAST time it happened!

Poor Barack. The Right hates him for being too liberal, and the Left hates him for not being liberal enough. We need another FDR - but I fear there isn't one in sight. We all thought he would be, but have been woefully disappointed.
