Very short post

I need to finish writing, and thawing, but I wanted to take this opportunity to offer a brief product endorsement. I own one of these umbrellas (which I also use as a parasol):
Although I often buy things because they are practical, I bought this because it is very pretty. Tonight, I used it walking home through storming rain and winds of 50-120km/h (30-75mph). I had it up most of the way, even in the bit up on the open hill ridge as I walked past the university. As umbrellas failed all around me, and other walkers gave up, folded theirs and just accepted the soaking, my delicate frilly thing held up like a champ. Well done, Boston brollies!

Thanks, I did manage to travel in one of the calm spots. Now I'm safely back home, warm and dry. Yay!

Actually, I'm at The Other Uni. That is, UNSW. :P I'll keep that in mind though, because I fairly regularly visit Usyd for one thing or another. You're referring to the Newtown strip, right? I never know where to eat there, there are so many choices!

If you're ever near UNSW, or if the weather decides to turn sunny and you visit Coogee Beach, there's a really nice fresh pizza place called Arthur's Pizza. There's a branch in 'The Spot' near Randwick Junction (that is, near the side of UNSW that's closest to Coogee Beach), and another branch near Chauvel Cinemas in Paddington.

Speaking of delicious food, do you know any good places that serve African cuisine? I don't remember ever eating any, which is a real shame; I've lived in Sydney most of my life, and it's such a multi-cultural (cuisine-wise at least) city.

Do I what! There aren't as many as there were when I first moved to Sydney. Back then there were a lot of South African anti-apartheid people who had come over here as refugees and several opened good eateries, but most have since closed as many people moved home. These days it's mostly North African, but still good!

African Feeling on King St in Newtown is pretty good, and has a lot of representative dishes from around the continent. African Express on Enmore Rd is run by the same people who used to run the North African restaurant on King St and has many of the same dishes. When they say spicy, they mean it, but it is still delicious, and the prices and service are both good.

There are meant to be some good places on the North Shore, but I have gone native and refuse to cross the Bridge ;-)

For ingredients if you want to try a spot of DIY, the old market on Enmore Rd has closed, sadly, but Fiji Markets on South King St has a good range of spices and tinned goods and great prices. I think I have seen a new African deli in the area, but am drawing a mental blank on where ...

And yes. Blacksheep is pretty much in the centre of the strip, near where Church St meets King St (and if you have a free day, wandering around St Stephens cemetery on Church St is a great way to spend an afternoon, so lovely!) Though on weekends, the food on South King is usually better during the day, and Enmore Rd a better bet at night: too many pubs up in central Newtown and it gets a bit feral on the weekend!

I get over to UNSW fairly regularly for ukulele lessons, so when the weather improves, I'll try to fit in a pizza mission!
