This weekend I have made chocolate and hazelnut slice (so good!), cycled a long way, cheered up a new friend and dissected and drawn poppies.

This last is because I spent last weekend learning how to make silk flowers using French flower making tools. I have wanted to learn how to do this since about 1978, so I am very excited! If anyone has flower making tools that they would like to sell, let me know!

Meanwhile, my goal to declutter the house continues. Does anyone want three lovely vintage style bras, one gold with black lace, one pink with blue lace and one red lace: AU 14E, UK 36F, US 36E, EU 80G? Alas, you can't take bras in and they are far too lovely and newish to toss.

I have to tackle the books next. It may be easier to just move …

The laundry pile is now shorter than me. It's a start. Next, fic, long overdue essay thingy, invoicing so that people will pay me (might do that first) and dissecting a rannunculus. And catching up on fandom and birthdays and life. And make a big career decision. And …

Chocolate and hazelnut is a heavenly combination. And sleeping should probably be my first priority as well, since my fever addled brain read "dissected and drawn puppies".

Ooh, I'll have the bras if they're going begging! I know how you feel about the books; I try to give them away, give them to charity, but somehow they multiply on their own. I can't throw them away because like Gunter Grass said, 'Even bad books are books and therefore sacred'.

The bras are yours! Which is a cunning plan to get your address as I started but never finished a hat for you last winter, which will now have to be finished after Darry's socks (which are next in line after flower dissection), but I feel it will all come together beautifully! And yes: I can only really get rid of books that I have been terribly disappointed in, or else review books, or sometimes non-fiction that I feel I no longer connect with (my Indian cookbooks were almost all given to a grateful Erskinvillain last year after I realised I only ever made anything out of the vegan one). There are many others I may never open again, but I like to see and touch, and know they are safe!

And what is a 'slice'? Is it a candy or a cakey thing? Either way, it sounds nommy.
I vote for shower, tea with more slice, and then sleep. Why waste good sleeping time without warm chocolate in your belly?

And, damn, woman! I think your picture is now next to 'busy' in the dictionary.
"Dissecting the Rannunculus" sounds like a great title to something.

Slice is a particularly Australian thing, in that they love it here, make it in thousands of varieties and will come up with any excuse to eat some: basically it's a flat cake, brownie, muesli/cake mix, spicy biscuity thing or similar bottom layer, topped with something else, often chocolate, icing or caramel.

Some slices are simply evil, including the one that is a layer of dark chocolate, then an inch-thick layer of white chocolate mixed with coconut, glace cherries, cream and a few other things, topped with more dark choc. Some are positively healthy, such as the orange zest and polenta one topped with an orange glaze, and some, like today's, are in between.

It's 17Catherine's fault, she hooked me up with the slice cookbook and now I am enabled ;-)

I will let you know how that one goes, BTW, it looks like a hard flower to make!

It's made me very happy, there is a long story which I may even have time to tell later this week. Along with slice recipes!

And yes, it's always good to be able to pass on things that are lovely to someone else I know rather than dump them in the charity bin and hope they don't get nicked by students who are living in Newtown because Daddy pays their bills and aren't we daring raiding the clothes bins! (Charity clothes donations by us are now cycled down to the depot since the last 'Oh really? Seriously, you're wearing a Bulgari watch!' shouting match at the bin, which is unfortunately next to the pub. I'd not mind if it were any of the proper locals.)

Aha, my grandma once went into a silk flower phase, and so there are just silk flowers randomly around. It does end up so pretty though!

Seems like good progress to me. As far as bird metaphors go, you strike me as more like a hummingbird than a headless chicken. :)

I hadn't realized the bra sizing was so different across the globe, but somehow all those regions managed to have a letter-number system... Curious.

This is the first I've heard of slices, but they sound good. I've been meaning to attempt lamingtons for a while - now I'm thinking I should make them both at once and have an Australian dessert day.

Do you know, we got rid of 3/4 of our books when we moved to this house in April. And let me tell you, it was like physical PAIN to part with them. But we've been dragging them around the world for years now, and J has a Kindle and I have an iPad, and it just didn't make sense to have all this paper-based clutter in the house, no matter how weirdly attached I was to them.

And since they've been gone? I don't miss them. Not one, not once. DO EET. it's not that bad!

How you make me laugh! I would pay just to see a black and gold 36F bra as it sounds very saucy; and the sizing comment reminded me of a code used in a local corsetry factory for cup sizes: egg cup, coffee cup, tea cup, breakfast cup, FA cup...... As to ridding oneself of books, Oxfam reported that people bought 2nd hand books to burn as they were cheaper than firewood or coal. I tried it with some of my excess volumes (I promise, they were truly terrible) but it still felt like a religious fanaticism or sacrilege and had to stop. Meant to comment ages ago, by the way, on your recent fictions which were an absolute delight, thank you so much!
