Dreadfully sorry, mostly melted.

I am behind on birthdays and news, and shaking my head at Lance Armstrong and everything. Sorry!

But it was 45.8C here today (115F) and I have survived only by the internal application of iced lollies, iced juice and sorbet.

A cool change has rolled through, I feel I may be a Pratchett Troll as my brain seems to be returning with the colder weather.

We are not going to speak of the Australian cricket team, except to say that it makes me glad I still support England. [livejournal.com profile] wemyss, you may laugh if you must, it is entirely fair.

[livejournal.com profile] pingrid and I wish to know if there is an accepted short form of Richard Armitage, as we have been watching North and South and have had to go for RArm to save on typing. While it leaves out quite a bit of the book, it is much lovelier than the images that were in my head!

And I thought the 38C I've been suffering was bad. :/

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
It IS! But alas, things could get worse … It's 25 today, though. HURRAH for the cold change!

[identity profile] inamac.livejournal.com 2013-01-18 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Surely the 'short form' of Richard Armitage is 'Thorin'?

I toyed with variants on 'Dick' but finally decided that 'RAge' is just about acceptable.

Bwahahahaha! I quite like RAge … You know, if I found out that he was Simon Armitage's cousin, I think my head would explode. Happily, it's an enormously common name, so I am probably safe.

[identity profile] phoenixacid.livejournal.com 2013-01-18 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be very good and not make a comment about the "internal application of ice lollies".

*smiles at you*

So sorry about the heat though, ouch!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
If it keeps being up around 45, it will come to that!

That's entirely unfair. The whole POINT of cold is snow! I once did a winter hike in Scotland (don't ask, stupidest thing ever. It was meant to be learning how to cross-country ski and went downhill (pardon the pun) rapidly. I suspect that ex-boyfriend was trying to kill me.) in which I ended up wearing all my clothes at once in a bid to warm up my bones. If you have any local large hills with steep inclines, I found walking up them with a 10kg pack and carting skis an excellent method of warming up!

I have survived only by the internal application of iced lollies

I imagine you in fact ate them, but that is not the image my diseased brain first supplied.

I hate to say it, but if there had not been a 20-degree drop in temperature between today and yesterday, it could well have come to that point!

Well one must keep one's core temperature within parameters...

It is a snowy wonderland in London today, with hopefully more on the way. We had a snowball fight on our front yard tonight. I have been walking around in it with the most enormous grin on my face all day.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I still think that if we were to video chat more often, his abbreviation would have to be RAr! RAWR *kitten claws*

[identity profile] pushdragon.livejournal.com 2013-01-18 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I demand there be more As to get the full effect of RAAAAAAr.He deserves every one.

He's so lovely in North and South, with his rough regional accent.

AND THE TORTURED BROODING!

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I had to keep watching through to the end last night – THE SMILE! OMG! THE SMILE! Just such a lovely note to the character, illuminating the fact that it's not going to be one of those awful Dorthea/Casaubon marriages, but one in which both people can enjoy themselves as well as Being In Love and Decent!

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
YES! They have great chemistry.

Also, ahahahah, I've just learned that he's narrated three Georgette Heyer audiobooks! :D Well, I'm no stranger to buying hilarious audiobooks on a voice crush ... Downloading now!

Edited because I can't type.

I have been meaning to read Georgette Heyer! I have him narrating an episode of Robin Hood, but the writing is so dodgy that it is hard to get through. Happy to send you the discs if I can find them, though!

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
If you do find them, bring them along next time we meet up! Rai and I can fortify ourselves with a bottle of bubbly and laugh at the dodgy writing, and you can laugh at us. ;)

[identity profile] pingrid.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahahahah, turns out I can't actually listen to this audio book without cracking up! :D Heyer is pleasantly ludicrous at the best of times, and to hear it read by RAAAr (Hi, Push!) is just TOO MUCH! :D

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
It would have to be said with a certain degree of dignified affection in addition to the sheer lustiness, though. He's so self-evidently A Nice Chap, he even wears cardigans! I bet he mentors street kids who want to try out theatre, or fosters puppies or some such …

Brammers, I love that you make reference to Practchett's trolls. :D Discworld rocks. :D

I swear, I am cleverer in the UK than in Australia! I need a brain fan! And yes, he's the very best!

It happens to all of us. I think the heat really does just suck it out of us. ♥

Sam Vimes is one of my favourite characters. What about you?

[identity profile] blamebrampton.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
My friends strongly suggest that Mr Brammers IS Sam Vimes. There may be some truth to this … I would be thrilled to be Lady Sibyl, she's splendid! Alas, I fear I may be a little more part Granny, part Tiffany, part Susan (my bogeymonster-quashing skills are legendary among my young friends, niece and nephews. Speak clearly and carry a cricket bat. Weirdly, I was doing this well before she was written, which leads me to believe there is a certain type of young woman, which I am happy to be one of!)

LOL! I love the witches, too, but for some reason Sam Vimes sticks out and I adore him. I like the trolls, too. Some of them are hilarious. Carrot is one of my favouries, too. The six foot drawf. LOL

I haven't read any of the Tiffany books yet. But I've read most of the books in order. I did the Witches and the Night watch... Lady Sybil does rock. I love how she breeds dragons. :D

I've got quite a few on my kindle left to read and a few paperbacks. So many books to read. Hehe.

Goodness, it's still sweltering over there?

*sends some winter your way*

[identity profile] nenne.livejournal.com 2013-01-19 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds awful! I'll take minus 30 anyday over that. I'ts a good thing your there and I'm here, where we actually can cope. :) Keep cooling down any way you can.

It didn't get quite that hot here but we did lose power for 17 hours. Couldn't even have the fan on. Or use the ice packs as we didn't want to open the freezers. Dropped out at 6pm and came back on sometime between 10 and 1 today. Thankfully everything in the freezers was still frozen solid. No idea how that happened, they are old but even the ice cream was solid still.

I used the lack of digital things as an excuse to get some spinning done. Took the wheel outside (house is too dark to do much inside) and spent about an hour and a half spinning before it got too dark. Then we sat around and ate salad in the dark before heading to bed.

I think I am a troll too. I end up nearly brain dead in the heat and thinking returns as soon as it drops down into the 20s. Usually being up here means we miss most of the hideous heat. We get -6 in winter but we have a fire. This year has been awful though. Neighbour says it's the worse they've had since she moved here 12 years ago.
Today we had rain. Proper rain that was light but lasted for hours. Hopefully it has saved the garden.

The best tweet on my timeline yesterday came from Antony Green, of all people:

Australia need 1 to pass the temperature in Sydney.

Says it all really.

I share your trollness (trollility?), but worse, I am an albino troll. I burn in about 2 minutes in this weather. Summer is my hell.

OK, what is Australia doing in the cricket, really? Because when we saw them play Sri Lanka in the Boxing Day Test, it looked like Sri Lanka wasn't even playing. But in the one day matches, it's a whole different story...
