Does anyone know Sicily reasonably well?

I have a young friend who will be travelling to Sicily in six weeks. This is her first big trip, and I was hoping that someone on this list would have a passing familiarity with the trains, buses, etc and be able to give her some general advice. I am kicking myself for losing contact with every actual Sicilian I have ever met …

Fingers crossed, you can comment here or email me at blamebrampton@gmail.com, and thanks in advance!

I have never been to Sicily but our curate today at Mass told us about the many churches there dedicated to St. Barbara. And many more to St. George!!

Sorry, I don't mean to be facetious.

Not at all, it's a Fact, and facts are the basis of finding things fascinating when you travel. The banner of San Flaviano di Montefiascone is the same as the banner of Saint George, and whenever I am in Montefiasconeand run across San Flaviano, I feel a rush of affection, because I know this ;-)

TripAdvisor or Lonely Planet - I find both very helpful.
I found this thread -

Hi, I'm from It. :)
To Sicily I've never been, but I've found some general info:

Trains:
http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html

Bus to reach various places (sorry, this one I've found only in Italian)
http://www.regione.sicilia.it/turismo/trasporti/arcautolinee/orari_bus/autolinee.htm

If she is in a particular city, there will be "autobus" to reach various streets and such, but probably she is better asking locally (perhaps at the place where she sleeps) which one to take :)

Hope she has a nice trip :)

I asked a friend who is from Italy, and this is what she wrote:
