Three things

1. Just when I think I have a handle on how much sexism outweighs every other rational consideration in some parts, I am shown to have underestimated the situation yet again.

2. The people who are massive twunts are already being massive twunts. The rest of us need to not become massive twunts in response, but to look out for each other and just keep believing that decency will one day be a political value again. It remains the one thing that will keep us all going.

3. If necessary, I have a spare room, and we could fit tents on both the back deck and the front lawn. Hot in summer, but at least the winter is mild!

I'm so scared right now Brammers. I know some of it may be just me being pessimistic, but people that elected him don't need help hating my country already without him at the helm.

Our political enemies are ruthless and they will stop at nothing. Everything is justified by their oh-so-glorious ends. I an so discouraged - by both the racism and the sexism. I would support west coast secession.

I think this is a big part of what just happened - both the apologies made for Trump, and the attacks on Clinton. But I also think Americans are fools to be surprised by the sexism. With no statutory maternity leave, no ERA, huge earning discrepancies, and rampant rape and victim-blaming on college campuses then where was there reason to believe sexism wasn't a problem? People (including my former students) need to stop equating discrimination should not happen with discrimination does not happen now.

I already have set in motion to move to Tassie. Mid-year. It is a long process when animals and real estate are involved. I am just floored and all my friends are still in the world of "how did this happen?" - I think we know. It is sad evaluation of the average American.

4. People are stupid. They don't learn from history. They are vindictive and narcissist and ultimately selfish. Well, some people. Thank God not everyone.

Thanks for the offer. But I am heartened by the people saying "now we stay and keep up the good fight." It's miserable and horrifying news but around me people are supporting each other... I'll probably be laid off though, I teach English to foreign students and I don't think they'll be flocking here.

It's weird how personally I'm taking this one. Especially the sexism - how experienced and competent does a woman have to be to win over a racist, misogynist buffoon with no experience and no policies? I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.

YES. Especially 2. Especially ESPECIALLY 1. Millenia of throwing away female talent apparently continue.
