I know this is sacrilege in Sydney ...

But after the first five minutes,  fireworks are just loud, smoky and annoying. And we just had about $5million-worth of them explode over the city. I think I am jaded ...

That said, the 'creation storm' effect they had before the actual fireworks was very cool, we drove through it on the way home from seeing dear darling friends in the far north of the city. It was like lightning, the sort that comes rolling in with the storms after a hot stinking summer day, with pounding thunder following.

After all that, I have a kitty cuddled against me and another who keeps running in to check everything is still all right. Sweet silly kitties!

So far, 2009 is very pleasant and calm. Here's to another 364.925 days of the same!

Happy New Year and best wishes!

We still have another 7 hours till midnight, presents to pack and friends to meet :-) - for us New Year is the main holiday, not Christmas.

That's because you're not allowed to run around blowing horns and ringing bells at Christmas.

Oh, hang on, well the horns are frowned on at any rate ;-)

I agree about fireworks. I guess I am also jaded!

Happy New Year! I still have... more than 15 hours left of 2008.

That's at least enough time to write a best-selling novel about sparkly vampires!

It was very much 'seen it before' wasn't it? We only switched on a few minutes before 12, and of course, the only coverage we got here was of Sydney - when I wouldn't have minded seeing Melbourne's. As it was, we got a ring side seat for about 100,000,000Yen worth of illegal asian fireworks set off in our front yard for more than 40 minutes. My trees are not alight, and my cats fail to be impressed; about as impressed as I was. *grrr*

That being said - Happy New Year!

Poor kitties! Mine were just holding out under the onslaught from the harbour (Cookie under the spare bed, Mon sitting on my feet) but then the neighbours started blowing things up in sympathy, and they were VERY unhappy!

Happy New Year to you, too!

Happy new year to you and your kitties!

They raise a glass to you and yours, too! (Metaphorically, they are both actually unconscious ...)

Oh my, it's 2009 in your part of the world already. Happy NEW YEAR, Baby B. All the very best for you, J. and those cats! Hope to see you in 2009, Estonia, Oslo or perhaps even Azcatraz :-).

*hugs*

But I like the sound of fireworks best... *is too young to have lived during any time of bombing*

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

We still have another eight hours of 2008. And I agree with you about the fireworks. I enjoy the fires, but every year, I have to close my windows in the third floor because there is so much smoke coming up from the street below. Crazy, really. And I don't get how one can enjoy the stuff that doesn't sparkle, but only makes loud bangs.

I think fireworks are a bit of an embarrasment in today's economic crisis.

I am ze New Year's Grinch, apparently.

Anyhoooooooooo,
Happy 2009, sweetheart.

Happy New Year, darling. I've a little over 12 hours until I can commence with the horn blowing and noise making.

Hope you have a wonderful 2009!!

Happy New Year! :D

:O There are still 10 hours left of 2008 for me!

I used to live on the 20th floor of a highrise and from there could watch fireworks all over the city. It was pretty cool. Now of course, my reaction to all fireworks is "Fuck! Hurry up and be over before you wake up Ben!"

lol

I anticipate my New Year's Eve will be quiet. Babe is sick, hub is sick. I suspect I will be lying on couch, trying to stay awake until midnight just because I feel like I should.

Oh the glamour of my life. Try not to be jealous.

Happy new year, BB!
